HWL Overdrive Episode #5 (07/31/19)

Pyros light up the HWL Arena in St. Louis as we prepare to bring you another episode of HWL Overdrive and no sooner have the sparks faded than Lacey Evans makes her way to the ring.

Evans claims she was robbed of the HWL Women’s World Championship at Inauguration and she demands a title match with Nikki Cross right here and right now. Cross says that little psychotic brat is toxic and a horrible representative of this company and the situation needs to be rectified immediately. Evans is then interrupted as Kelly Klein makes her way to the ring. Klein says that Evans can go ahead and stop right there. Klein says her elimination from the title match at Inauguration was an absolute fluke, but Evans just plain got beat. Klein says the line for the first title shot at Nikki Cross starts behind the Gatekeeper. Evans says that Klein would be lucky to last a whole 30 seconds next time if she ever got another title shot. Evans and Klein appear about ready to come to blows when they are interrupted by Charlotte Flair. Flair stops at the bottom of the ramp and says both of the two losers in the ring did just that at Inauguration - they lost. Charlotte says the first title opportunity should go to a winner and she’s the only one out here that won her match at Inauguration. The three women are then interrupted by Dario Cueto of Lucha Underground. Cueto asks if anyone is surprised to see him here? He says some may be surprised to see him alive at all, but rumors of his demise were not at all accurate. Cueto says he has a vested stake in HWL and just like we saw with Paul Heyman and Billy Corgan at Inauguration, he has the authority to show up from time to time here in HWL and spice things up a bit. Cueto says that’s exactly what he’s going to do tonight with a Fatal 4-Way Main Event. Cueto says the three women out here right now are three of the only four ladies to have recorded a win in the HWL. The other, Alexa Bliss, he says will be the fourth woman in tonight’s Fatal 4-Way match and the winner will receive one of his Unique Opportunities. Cueto says if you’ve paid attention to what goes on in his temple, one of his Unique Opportunities can be both a blessing and a curse. He says it can take you within a finger’s reach from the thing you want most or it can take away from you all that you hold dear. So, he says the ladies have been warned that this opportunity comes with a price and so now we will see which of them is brave enough and skilled enough to take it.

Cueto drops the mic and exits as Charlotte, Klein and Evans exchange glares and we go to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #5 (07/31/19)

Back from the break, Pete Dunne and Sami Callihan make their way to the ring for our first contest of the night.

Match #1 - Pete Dunne vs. Sami Callihan

The two square off as the match gets under way and Callihan goes nose to nose with Dunne and sticks a finger in his chest while mouthing off, which proves to be a big mistake from the get-go as Dunne grabs Callihan by that hand and snaps it in separate directions. Callihan turn and howls in pain and Dunne brings him down with a Chop Block. Dunne then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Leaping Knee Drop across the back of the head and Callihan rolls out to the floor to regroup and snaps a dislocated finger back into place. Dunne then tries to take Callihan out with a Slide, but Callihan dodges and pulls out the ring skirt, trapping Dunne in between it and the ring apron. Callihan then pummels Dunne and pokes him in the eye before throwing him back into the ring. Callihan sets up for a Cactus Special, but Dunne spins out of it and connects with a Short-arm Clothesline and hangs onto Callihan’s hand as he drags him back up to his feet and again snaps his hand in separate directions. Dunne then takes Callihan’s other hand and snaps it too. He then gives Callihan a Bitter End and makes the cover for the three count.

Dunne picks up the victory and starts to make his way to the back, but is ambushed from behind by the rest of OvE. Dave and Jake then throw Dunne headlong into the ring steps. Dave then pulls out a chair and prepares to use it on Dunne, but then the lights go out and we hear two thuds from the chair and when the lights come back on Suicide is standing over both Dave and Jake with the chair and both members of OvE are down and out. Callihan now comes to the edge of the ring and reaches through the ropes and grabs Suicide by the mask, but Suicide swings the chair up and makes contact with the top of Callihan’s head, breaking free and knocking Callihan flat in the ring. Security now comes rushing down to the ring because Suicide does NOT work here. He has no right to cross that barricade and assault our wrestlers. Suicide escapes over the barricade and out through the crowd as security gives chase and we take you now to a word from our sponsors.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #5 (07/31/19)

Back from the break, Jay Lethal is headed to the ring for our next contest. Braun Strowman then makes his entrance and our next match is ready to get under way.

Match #2 - Jay Lethal vs. Braun Strowman

Lethal fires away at Braun with a series of jabs to the abdomen as the match gets under way, but to no effect. Strowman then claps Lethal around the ears and chucks him up over his head like a lumberjack flipping a log pole and Lethal flips over to crash land down hard on his back. Strowman then bounces off the ropes as Lethal stumbles back to his feet and Strowman runs him over with a big Shoulder Block. After repeating this three times, Strowman then hoists Lethal up for a Running Powerslam, but Lethal slips free down the back and hooks Strowman under the arms as he tries to pin him in a Backslide, but Strowman powers out of it. Strowman then knocks Lethal flat with a big right hand and then drags Lethal over to the corner and delivers a Swagger Bomb. Strowman the scrapes Lethal up off the mat and finishes him off with the Running Powerslam for the three count.

Strowman picks up his first HWL win and heads to the back as we take you backstage to our broadcast colleague, who is standing by with the new HWL World Heavyweight Champion, Joey Ryan. Ryan says that the quest has been completed and nobody could conquer Dongzilla. Ryan says now it is on to his next challenge, defending this title against Adam Cole on August 17 on Pay Per View as HWL presents Heatwave. Ryan says that when things get hot and steamy, nobody performs better than he does and at Heat Wave, the Panama City Playboy will surely wilt under the pressure of sharing the screen with this Paragon of Pecker. Ryan then exits, leaving our broadcast colleague miffed as we take you to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #5 (07/31/19)

Back from the break, it’s time for tag team action as Enzo & Big Cass and the Viking Raiders make their way to the ring for this next contest.

Match #3 - Enzo & Big Cass vs. The Viking Raiders

Rowe and Cass starts things off and tie up in the middle of the ring, but neither man can get the advantage. Cass then breaks their grip and goes for a Big Boot, but Rowe ducks out of the way and lands a Knee Strike to the gut. Rowe then pounds Cass with Double Ax-handle Smashes and then bounces off the ropes, but runs into a Big Clothesline from Cass. Cass then bounces off the ropes and drops an Empire Elbow on Rowe. He then makes the tag to Enzo and goes for a Rocket Launcher off the top rope, but Rowe rolls out of the way and Enzo crash lands hard on his face and chest. Rowe then nails Cass with a Flying Knee Strike and Cass falls backward through the ropes and out to the floor. Rowe then makes the tag to Hanson, who flips in over the top rope and crashes down with a Somersault Leg Drop to the back of Enzo’s head. Enzo then goes for a ride on the Viking Experience and Hanson makes the cover for the three count.

Call them what you want, War Machine, the Viking Experience, the War Raiders or the Viking Raiders. Call them Erik and Ivar or Rowe and Hanson. Whatever the name, they are dominant wherever they go and tonight was no exception. The Viking Raiders win in convincing fashion in their HWL debut and we take you to this word from our sponsors.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #5 (07/31/19)

Back from the break, prepare to embrace the strange as Stardust makes his way to the ring to take on Teddy Hart in our next encounter.

Match #4 - Stardust vs. Teddy Hart

The two men square off as the match gets under way and Stardust cartwheels our of the way of Hart’s attempt at a tie-up and instead Dropkicks him in the back. Hart drops himself just short of crashing into the corner and slowly turns to glare at Stardust. Hart then charges across the ring and Stardust catches him with a Drop Toehold, driving Hart face first into the corner on his knees with his face pressed up against the middle turnbuckle. Stardust then lands a Double Running Knee Smash to the back of the head and makes the cover, but Hart kicks out. Stardust then bounces off the ropes and tries to drop a knee across Hart’s face, but Hart rolls out of the way and Stardust crashes to the mat, where he remains down on one knee as Hart connects with a Hurricanrana, driving Stardust face first into the mat. Hart then scrambles up to the top rope, but Stardust drives his knees up into Hart’s back. Stardust then rushes back up to his feet and finishes things off with Dark Matter and makes the cover for the three count.

Stardust picks up the win as he celebrates in the ring. Backstage, we see that Suicide has somehow eluded security. Can somebody please get this son of a bitch out of here and arrest him? He has no right to be here. Our camera man is the only one around and can’t do anything about it as Suicide presses a finger to his lips and slips out the side door and out of the arena. Our camera man tries to follow him, but the door has been barricaded shut and we take our final commercial break of the night. It’s Main Event time when we return.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #5 (07/31/19)

We are with you now until the end of the show as Alexa Bliss, Kelly Klein, Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair make their entrances for our Main Event of the night.

Match #5 - Fatal 4-Way Match for a “Unique Opportunity” - Lacey Evans vs. Kelly Klein vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss

The four women square off as the match gets under way and Klein goes after Evans, but Evans drops to the mat and rolls out to the floor. Klein then turns back to the other two women and runs into a Big Boot to the face from Charlotte. Bliss then kicks Charlotte in the gut and hits her with a DDT. Bliss goes for the cover, but Charlotte kicks out and now Evans pulls Charlotte out to the floor by the boot and shoves her backward, spine first into the ring post. Back in the ring, Bliss is on the run for her life from Klein and tries to bail out through the ropes, but Klein grabs her by the back of the tights and drags her back into the ring and hoist her up into a Full Nelson Slam. Klein then makes the cover, but Evans comes in and breaks it up. Evans takes a big swing at Klein as she gets back to her feet, but Klein blocks it and hoists Evans up into a Gorilla Press before tossing her out over the top rope at Charlotte, but instead of going down, Charlotte catches her and then pitches Evans into the barricade with a Fallaway Slam. Back in the ring, Klein puts Bliss up for a Powebomb, but Bliss counters into a Hurricanrana, but before she can get back up, Charlotte nails Bliss with Natural Selection. Klein then stumbles out of the corner into a Spear from Charlotte and Charlotte then locks Klein in the Figure Four and bridges up into the Figure Eight. Klein tries to fight off the pain and refuses to tap out and Bliss eventually recovers and tries to roll into a cover on Klein, but Evans slides back into the ring and blocks the way. Bliss tries to crawl through Evans’ legs, but Evans catches her around the waist and pulls her up into a Gutwrench Suplex onto Charlotte, breaking up the submission and both Charlotte and Klein roll out to the floor. Bliss staggers back up to her feet and Evans connects with the Woman’s Right and covers her to pick up the win.

Evans celebrates her victory and motions toward her own waist that she wants the title next. Dario Cueto then comes out onto the rampway and he has four separate contracts in hand. Cueto says he had one of these contracts drawn up with separate opportunities for each woman if they had been able to win. Cueto says he is very glad that it was Lacey who won this opportunity because the “Unique Opportunity” that he has for her is his favorite of them all. Cueto says that if she takes this contract and signs it, she will face Nikki Cross one-on-one for the Women’s Championship on Aug. 17 at Heatwave. However, as Cueto mentioned earlier, his Unique Opportunities come with a price. Evans is going to put something on the line in return or else there will be no match. Cueto says he could make Evans put up her career, but he doesn’t want to deprive all these people of continuing to see her compete in the ring. He says he could make her shave her head if she were to lose, but again that doesn’t quite live up to his high standards for an opportunity of this magnitude. He says he watched from the very first show when Lacey chose to deride Paige for some provocative decisions Paige made in the past that came back to bite her when her privacy was taken away. He says that he recalls Evans calling Paige’s past indiscretions “unladylike.” Cueto says it this seems fitting that what Evans must put on the line at Heatwave if she wants a title match is nothing less than her own dignity and modesty as the perfect southern lady that she claims to be. Cueto says that if Evans signs this contract and does not defeat the Women’s World Champion at Heatwave, she will have to appear in that very ring Au Natural for all the world to see. If she wants a shot at the title, he says she will have to risk her clothes and if she does not win, the whole world will be able to see every last inch of the dignified lady that she claims to be, as naked as the day she was born. Lacey looks aghast at this development and Cueto walks the contract down to the ring and slides it in toward Lacey. He says she doesn’t have to decide now, but she will have to make her decision by next week. Lacey numbly reaches down and picks up the contract while self-consciously covering herself with her arms across her chest as we go off the air.
