HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Pyros erupt throughout the HWL Arena in St. Louis as we kick off the third episode of HWL Overdrive and after tonight, we will know who will advance to the finals of each of our championship tournaments and who will compete for the inaugural HWL championships at our first Pay Per View on July 27 in Washington, D.C. The Young Bucks have also promised to reveal tonight who their partner is going to be at Inauguration a week from Saturday when they take on Villain Enterprises in a 6-Man Tag Team Match. Who is behind the curtain giving the Authors of Pain their marching orders? Perhaps we’ll find out tonight.

We are going to get at least one answer here in our opening segment as we find out who will advance to the finals of the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament as Rich Swann and PAC make their entrances for our first semifinal match of the night.

Match #1 – HWL Cruiserweight Championship Tournament – Rich Swann vs. PAC

Swann and PAC square off as the match gets under way and PAC lands a couple of kicks to the thigh. PAC then goes for a Thrust Kick to the gut, but Swann catches PAC by the leg and sweeps his other leg out from under him. Swann then connects with a Lionsault off the ropes into the cover, but PAC quickly kicks out. Swann tries to transition into an Armbar, but PAC powers out and rolls quickly back up to his feet and connects with a Dropkick to the jaw. PAC then follows up with a Standing Shooting Star Press into the cover for a near fall. PAC punishes Swann with a series of Forearm Shivers and then goes for a Buckle Bomb in the corner, but Swann counters into a Hurricanrana, flipping PAC through the ropes and out to the floor. Swann climbs out onto the ring apron as PAC struggles back up to his feet and Swann punts him in the side of the head and then springboards off the ropes into an Asai Moonsault, taking PAC down out on the floor. Swann tries to put PAC back in the ring, but PAC elbows him in the gut and then takes Swann by the tights and pitches him headfirst into the side of the ring steps. PAC puts the boots to Swann out on the floor and then climbs back into the ring to stop the referee’s count. PAC then goes back out after Swann and knees him in the face. PAC then tries to Powerbomb Swann into the barricade, but Swann fires back with a flurry of punches and drives PAC to the floor with a Tornado DDT. Swann then throws PAC back into the ring and heads up to the top rope. Swann goes for a Phoenix Splash, but PAC rolls out of the way and Swann crashes to the mat. PAC then bounces off the ropes and hits a Flipping Guillotine Leg Drop across the back of the neck, driving Swann’s face into the mat. PAC then goes up to the top rope and hits the Red Arrow and rolls Swann into the cover for the three count.

PAC celebrates his victory as he makes his way to the back and reminds us to never forget that he is the KING of the Cruiserweights, now and for always and at Inauguration, he promises to take back his crown. In the back, we see The Young Bucks arriving at the arena. We’ll find out their tag team partner for Inauguration’s six-man tag match later tonight, but for now it’s time for a word from our sponsors.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Back from the break, it’s time for our first tag team tournament semifinal match of the night as The Goodbrothers and The Revival make their way to the ring.

Match #2 – HWL Tag Team Championship Tournament – The Goodbrothers vs. The Revival

Gallows and Wilder start things off and Gallows connects with a big Knee to the gut and clubs Wilder over the back of the head and makes a quick tag to Anderson and the two drop Wilder with a Sidewalk Slam, Leg Drop combination. Anderson puts the boots to Wilder and sets up for a Swining Neckbreaker, but Wilder counters into a Short-arm Clothesline and then dives to his corner and makes the tag to Dawson. Dawson rushes in and hits Anderson with a Running Knee to the mid-section, flipping Anderson through the air to land on his back. Dawson then takes a wild swing at Gallows on the right apron, but Gallows ducks and fires back with a big right hand of his own, knocking Dawson loopy. Anderson then plants Dawson with an Impaler DDT and Wilder comes in to try to save his partner, but Gallows comes in and knocks Wilder flat with a Running Big Boot. Gallows and Anderson then polish Dawson off with the Magic Killer and Anderson makes the cover for the three count.

Gallows and Anderson celebrate as they are headed to the tag team title match at Inauguration. In the back we see Seth Rollins walking around with a steel chair. He says he knows Kenny Omega is here somewhere tonight and he hasn’t forgotten the distraction he caused two weeks ago, allowing Brian Cage to take advantage and beat him in the tournament. He says he’s not going to rest until he finds him. Rollins then stalks off yelling for Omega and we cut to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Back at ringside, one wrestler is about to get one step closer to the World Heavyweight Championship. Dolph Ziggler and Tommaso Ciampa make their entrances for this next contest, a semifinal match in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament.

Match #3 – HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament – Dolph Ziggler vs. Tommaso Ciampa

Ziggler and Ciampa square off as we get under way and the two men circle each other warily, unwilling to make an early mistake. Ziggler tries to get a hand around Ciampa’s neck and shoulder, but Ciampa spins away and the two men continue to circle each other. Ciampa then rushes Ziggler, but Ziggler Leapfrogs him and Ciampa stops himself short of crashing into the corner. Ziggler then tries to run in behind him for the ZigZag, but Ciampa hooks the ropes and Ziggler crashes to the mat. Ciampa connects with a Leg Drop and applies a Head Scissors as he looks to slow Ziggler down. Ziggler slowly pulls himself out under the bottom rope and out to the floor, gaining leverage enough to be able to pry Ciampa’s legs apart and break the hold and then slams Ciampa’s unguarded knee into the side of the ring post. Ziggler then quickly rolls back into the ring and pulls Ciampa into position for a Neckbreaker, but Ciampa is able to overpower him and pull Dolph’s hands away from his chin. Ciampa then turns around and connects with a couple of Forearm Shots to the kidneys and follows up with a Reverse DDT Backbreaker across his heavy knee brace. Ciampa then follows up with a Rolling Cutter and makes the cover, hooking the leg, but Ziggler kicks out for a near fall.  Ciampa then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Knee Drop across the back of the neck. He then calls for a Package Piledriver, but Dolph is able to power out of it and shoves Ciampa back against the ropes. Ziggler then connects with a Superkick, knocking Ciampa through the ropes and out to the ring apron. Ziggler then springboards off the middle rope and hits Ciampa with a Dropkick and the impact carries Ciampa over backward where he flips through the air and lands on the corner of the ring apron with his chest and bounces to the floor. Dolph orders the referee to count faster and count him out and the referee’s slow and deliberate count reaches seven as Ciampa stumbles back up to his feet and Ziggler realizes he’s not going to get the countout and goes for a Baseball Slide, but Ciampa dodges and pulls out the ring apron and traps Ziggler between it and the side of the ring. Ciampa then thumbs Ziggler in the eye and follows up with an Enziguri to the back of the head. Ciampa then starts pulling up padding off the floor and drags Ziggler out of the apron. Ciampa sets up for the Fairy Tale Ending onto the exposed concrete, but Ziggler counters into the ZigZag and both men crash to the floor with no protection. Both men are down and out and the referee goes out to check on them and neither is responsive. The referee starts to waive off the match, but Ciampa’s arm snaps out and grabs the referee by the index finger, stopping him. Ciampa then uses the referee to pull himself back up to his knees as Ziggler does the same using the barricade. Both men reach their feet at about the same time and Ziggler goes for a Superkick, but Ciampa dodges out of the way at the last second and Ziggler nails the referee by accident. Ciampa then Mule Kicks Ziggler in the balls and chucks him back into the ring. Ciampa makes the cover and starts slapping the mat himself, but there is no referee. A second referee now comes running out and Ciampa rolls deep into the cover, but Ziggler is able to kick out at the last second. Ciampa berates the referee, but to no avail and now Ziggler gets up to one knee and shoves Ciampa into the second official, knocking him over and now Ziggler returns the favor with his own Low Blow to Ciampa. Ziggler starts tuning up the band with Ciampa down on both knees, favoring his genitals. Ziggler gives up on waiting for Ciampa to treachery his feet and goes for a Superkick to the back of the head, but Ciampa ducks and nails Ziggler in the nuts a second time. Ciampa then follows up with the Fairy Tale Ending and makes the cover as the original referee slowly crawls into the ring and makes the three count.

Ciampa slowly rolls out to the floor and has his arm raised in victory as he advances to the tournament finals with a chance to be the inaugural HWL World Heavyweight Ciampion one week from Saturday. In the back Marty Scurll and Villain Enterprises are discussing the Young Bucks and just who they might bring out to join them at Inauguration. Scurll says that Cody is too busy playing around at the planetarium and Omega is running scared from Seth Rollins, so they’re running all out of friends. Scurll, Brody King and PCO share a laugh at that and we go to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Back from the break, AJ Styles is preparing for an interview with our broadcast colleague when something catches his attention. AJ then peers around the corner and there is Kenny Omega. Styles happily greets Omega and welcomes him back stateside after their years together in Japan. Before Omega can say anything we hear Seth Rollins let out a roar, having spotted Omega himself now. Rollins charges in, swinging his chair at Omega’s head, but Omega dives out of the way and Rollins drills Styles by mistake. Rollins then starts to chase after Omega as he runs off, but stops and goes back to check on Styles instead, apologizing to AJ and calling for help.

Back at the ring, it’s time for our next match of the night and we are going to find out who will face PAC for the Cruiserweight Championship as Buddy Murphy and Austin Aries make their entrances.

Match #4 - HWL Cruiserweight Championship Tournament - Buddy Murphy vs. Austin Aries

Murphy attempts to jump Aries from behind as he’s taking off his ring jacket, but Aries senses it coming and keeps his jacket on as he fends off Murphy with a series of big right hands and the bell rings to get this match under way. Aries then takes his jacket off and wraps it around Murphy’s neck and uses it to toss him across the ring and Murphy flips through the air and crash lands on his tail bone, ending up in a seated position as Aries follows up with a Snapmere Takeover. Aries then tries to end it early as he goes for the Last Chancery, but Murphy quickly ties himself up in the ropes to force a break. Aries is slow to grant the break and is admonished by the referee. Murphy gets back to his feet and Aries comes charging back at him, but Murphy scores a Double-leg Takedown and pummels Aries with a flurry of punches. Murphy then pulls Aries back up to his feet by the ear and buries a knee in his mid-section. Murphy then goes for Sliced Bread #2, but Aries slips out and shoves Murphy out over the top rope, but Murphy hangs on and prevents himself from crashing to the floor. Murphy lands on his feet on the ring apron and Aries charges after him, but Murphy drives his shoulder through the middle of the ropes and into Aries’ gut. Murphy then follows up with a Sunset Flip into the cover, but Aries kicks out for a near fall. Murphy tried to set Aries up for a Wheelbarrow Suplex, but now Aries rolls through into a pinning combination for a near fall. Aries then connects with a Thrust Kick to the guy and an Impaler DDT and quickly turns it into the Last Chancery. Aries screams for Murphy to tap out, but Murphy refuses and fights his way to the ropes to again force Aries to relinquish the hold. Aries again refuses to do so right away and finally breaks the hold at the count of four before he can be disqualified. This time the referee is up in Aries grill, telling him that he needs to break the hold as soon as the referee calls for a break. While the referee is busy giving Aries the business, somebody jumps over the barricade near where Murphy is hanging with his head and arms out over the bottom rope as he starts to get back to his feet and the person Superkicks Murphy square in the face and blood spurts from Murphy’s nose, which could very well be broken. The attacker quickly hops back over the rail and retreats through the crowd before he can be caught. Murphy staggers back up to his feet, blood gushing down his face onto his chest and he turns back to Aries, who kicks him in the abdomen and follows up with a Brainbuster into the cover and the three count.

Aries celebrates his win as he makes his way to the back and it will be PAC against Aries in a Wrestlemania 33 rematch for the Cruiserweight Championship in the finals. Our cameras are able to locate the man who attacked Murphy with that Superkick as he makes his way through the crowd and before he vanishes from sight he turns to look right into the hard camera and pulls down the hood of his sweatshirt and we see that it was TJ Perkins. Perkins has cost Buddy Murphy this match and a chance at the title and with this revelation it’s time to go now to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Back from the break, we are joined at the commentary desk by Lacey Evans and Kelly Klein as we are set to find out who will join them in the Triple Threat Elimination Match for the Women’s Championship at Inauguration as Naomi and Cross make their entrances.

Match #5 - Women’s Championship Triple Threat Qualifier - Naomi vs. Nikki Cross

The two women square off as the match gets under way and Nikki backs Naomi into the corner and connects with a big Open-hand Slap across the chest. Cross then starts gnawing on Naomi’s forearm and the referee has to pull them apart, admonishing Nikki. Nikki charges back into the corner, but Naomi hits her with a Thrust Kick to the gut. Naomi the whips Nikki into the ropes and goes for the Rear View, but Nikki catches her around the middle and drops her on the back of her head with a German Suplex. Nikki then locks in a Guillotine Choke and Naomi has no choice but to tap out.

Nikki bails our of the ring and charges the announce table and climbs up on the desk on her knees where she bounces up and down and both Lacey and Klein stand up from the table and back up to the ring apron, giving Cross plenty of space as she wildly celebrates her win, telling Lacey and Kelly that it’s time to play.

This is interrupted as Villain Enterprises make their way out to the ring and Scurll calls for a microphone. He says they’ve waited long enough and he demands that the Young Bucks come out here right now and tell them who their partner is going to be at Inauguration, if they can even find a partner. Matt and Nick Jackson don’t keep him waiting for long as they make their way out onto the ramp. Matt says they heard what the Villains has to say earlier tonight and that they were right. Cody has other things going on right now and Kenny has enough on his plate with Seth Rollins, so neither of them are going to be their partner a week from Saturday at Inauguration. Matt says when you try to end his brother’s career, you make yourself a wanted man and justice must be served. Matt says that when you want to bring Villains to justice, nobody is better than their tag team partner at Inauguration. He says that when you need to ring Villains to justice, there is only one man to call and that is... The Hangman. Scurll then jumps as a noose drops down from the rafters right next to him and hangs there next to his head. Two more nooses drop down behind King and PCO and we see Hangman Page’s face appear on the JumboTron. Page tells Villain Enterprises that they can run on for a long time, but sooner or later, the Hangman always catches up to them in the end. Page says he’ll see the Villains on Saturday and chants of “Hung Bucks *clap, clap* Hung Bucks” ring throughout the arena as we go to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Back from the break, it’s time for our second tag team semifinal of the night as The B Team and The Authors of Pain make their way to the ring.

Match #6 - HWL Tag Team Championship Tournament - The B Team vs. Authors of Pain

Akam and Rezar can’t seem to agree on who is going to start the match as the bell rings and Curtis Axel takes advantage as he hits Akam in the back with a Dropkick, knocking him into Rezar and knocking Rezar out of the ring. Axel then rolls Akam up in a Schoolboy and shockingly gets the three count.

Axel and Dallas celebrate in the middle of the ring as Akam and Rezar look to be close to coming to blows with each other on the floor when the lights in the arena suddenly go out. When they come back on, Sting is standing in the middle of the ring, baseball bat in hand and he quickly drives the bat into Axel’s mid-section and then drops Dallas with the Scorpion Death Drop. Sting then orders Akam and Rezar to finish the job and the Authors of Pain follow his instructions and set Axel and Dallas up and deliver the Collider with tandem Powebombs. Sting then leads the AoP to the back, leaving Axel and Dallas down and out in the ring as we take one final commercial break for tonight.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #3 (07/17/19)

Back from the break, it’s main event time as Joey Ryan and Brian Cage make their entrances for the final tournament match of the night.

Match #7 - HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament - Brian Cage vs. Joey Ryan

Cage quickly overpowers Ryan and backs him up against the ropes as we get under way. Cage delivers a big clubbing blow across the chest, knocking Ryan down to one knee. Cage then drags Ryan back to his feet and whips him off into the ropes and delivers a thunderous Spinebuster. Cage then goes for the cover and presses Ryan’s face to the side with a meaty forearm, but Ryan kicks out for a near fall. Cage then hoists Ryan up into Gorilla Press position, but Ryan scrambles to get free and rakes Cage across the eyes. Ryan transitions into a Tornado DDT as he drops down to the mat. Ryan the puts the boots to Cage and gets in some Knee Strikes to the back of the head. Ryan stays on the attack, but Cage battles back up to his feet and gives Ryan a mighty shove backward. Ryan bounces off the ropes and comes back at Cage, but Cage flattens him with a Sparta Kick to the chest. Cage then hoists Ryan up and holds him in the Vertical Suplex position for a good 60 seconds before finally completing the move and bringing Ryan crashing down to the mat. Cage then calls for the Drill Claw, but Ryan fights out of it and delivers a Jawbreaker. Ryan then follows up with a Swinging Neckbreaker and heads up to the top rope as Cage slowly battles back up to his feet. Ryan stands there gyrating his hips as Cage reaches his feet and Ryan takes flight, but flies directly into a huge Clothesline from Cage. Cage then sets up for a Powerbomb, but Ryan counters into a Hurricanranna, launching Cage headlong into the referee, smashing the referee in the corner. Cage then spins back around and Ryan produces his trusty sucker and drives the stick right into Cage's left eye, unbeknownst to the referee. Ryan then rolls Cage up in a Small Package as the referee regains his wits and makes the three count.

Ryan quickly evacuates the ring as Cage storms around inside the ring in a half-blinded rage. Joey Ryan will advance to the World Heavyweight Championship match against Tommaso Ciampa in a match that will be one man hell bent on emasculating every opponent he gets into the ring with against another man who makes his living on perverse levels of masculinity. One will leave our nation's capital with the strap and it all goes down one week from Saturday. Thanks for watching and good night.
