HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Pyros erupt throughout the HWL Arena in St. Louis as episode two of HWL's weekly television program, Overdrive, comes to you live this evening.

Tournaments set to crown the inaugural HWL champions of all four divisions continue tonight with the semifinals set to take place next week and new champions to be crowned at HWL's first Pay Per View event, Inauguration, emanating from our nation's capitol in just over two weeks time.

We're starting things off tonight with the Cruiserweights as Buddy Murphy and Jordan Devlin make their entrances for our opening contest.

Match #1 - HWL Cruiserweight Championship Tournament - Buddy Murphy vs. Jordan Devlin

The two men tie up to begin the contest and Murphy goes to a Side Headlock, but Devlin slips out and goes after Murphy's left knee with a Chop Block from behind. Devlin then delivers a flurry of short kicks to the hamstring and tries to turn Murphy over into a Half Boston Crab, but Murphy powers out of it and kicks Devlin backward into the corner. Devlin then charges back out of the corner as Murphy regains his feet, but Murphy knocks him flat with an Elbow Smash to the face. Murphy then bounces off the ropes and as he comes back he drills Devlin with a Spear. Murphy then follows up with a Powerbomb into the turnbuckle and then a Moi Thai Knee Strike to the face and Devlin is barely conscious as Murphy puts the finishing touches on the match with a Wheelbarrow Suplex, bridging up into the cover for the 1, 2, 3.

Murphy is pumped up as he celebrates his victory and moves on to next week's semifinals where he will face the winner of tonight's other Cruiserweight contest between Enzo and Austin Aries. Rich Swann and PAC make up the other half of that bracket. We then cut to the back where we see a split screen of Charlotte Flair and Kelly Klein preparing for their match later tonight in a qualifier for the Women's Championship Triple Threat Elimination Match at Inauguration. The Queen will face the Gatekeeper in a dream match coming up later on, but right now we are going to take you to commercial break and when we come back we've got a quarterfinal match from the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Back from the break, Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler make their entrances and these two have had their ups and downs as an alliance in the WWE over the past year, but tonight they have to go through each other to advance in the championship tournament.

Match #2 - HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament - Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler

The two men warily circle each other in the middle of the ring and look like they're going to start off with a Grecko-Roman Knuckle Lock, but Dolph ducks back and fires away with a Superkick instead, but McIntyre dives out of the way and narrowly avoids getting hit and rolls out to the floor to regroup. Dolph then tries to catch McIntyre unawares out on the floor with a Suicide Dive, but McIntyre catches him and delivers a Belly-to-Belly Overhead Release Suplex into the barricade. McIntyre then puts the boots to Ziggler out on the floor and dives back into the ring and starts ordering the referee to count faster and count Dolph out. Ziggler makes it back into the ring in time, but as he's coming through the ropes, McIntyre catches him with a Leaping Knee Drop across the back of the head and neck, driving him face first into the mat. McIntyre then quickly goes for the cover, but Ziggler kicks out. McIntyre goes for the cover again and this time puts his feet up on the ropes, but Ziggler kicks out again anyway. McIntyre then crouches in the corner as Ziggler starts to get back to his feet and McIntyre charges across the ring, looking for the Claymore Kick, but runs right into the Superkick from Ziggler. McIntyre doesn't go down right away though, but he's basically out on his feet as Ziggler rears back and connects with a second Superkick, this time knocking the jacked Scotsman flat. Dolph dives into the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at the last second. Ziggler then stays on the attack with a rapid series of Elbow Drops to the chest and heads up to the top rope as McIntyre struggles back up to one knee. Ziggler comes flying off the top rope at McIntyre, but McIntyre swats him out of the air and Dolph comes down hard on the back of his neck. McIntyre then bounces off the ropes as Ziggler regains his feet and McIntyre drills the Claymore Kick, but the momentum knocks Dolph through the ropes and out to the floor. McIntyre goes out to the floor after him and drags Dolph over to the ring steps where he sets up for the FutureShock DDT, but Ziggler counters into an Inverted Atomic Drop from the stairs onto the floor. Ziggler then climbs up onto the ring apron as McIntyre very slowly struggles back up to his feet and Ziggler rears back and punts him in the face and then dives off the apron into a Tornado DDT out on the floor. Ziggler then strains himself to haul the bigger McIntyre back up to his feet and put him back into the ring and Dolph goes back up to the top turnbuckle and goes for a Diving Elbow Drop, but McIntyre rolls out of the way and Ziggler crashes to the mat. Both men are down and out as the referee begins to count them down and they slowly start pulling themselves up using the ropes on the same side of the ring. McIntyre then tries to take Ziggler's head off with a Lariat, but Ziggler ducks and connects with the ZigZag and picks up the three count.

Both men remain down and trying to catch their breath after the conclusion of this one as Ziggler advances into the tournament semifinals where he will take on either Adam Cole or Tomasso Ciampa, whichever one comes away with the win in tonight's Main Event. In the back we see our broadcast colleague is setting up to have a word with Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks after his brother was laid out by Villain Enterprises on this very program last week. We'll have that interview when we come back from commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Back from the break, our broadcast colleague is standing by with Matt Jackson, who says his brother Nick is in stable condition after the attack he suffered at the hands of Villain Enterprises. A video then replays the attack from last week. Matt says that Nick will be back next week and they're going to challenge Villain Enterprises to a 6-Man Tag Team Match at HWL's first Pay Per View, inauguration. Matt says they're also going to unveil their tag team partner for that match next week and that justice will be served.

Back at ringside our next match is coming up as The Usos and The Authors of Pain make their way to the ring for the final quarterfinal contest in the Tag Team Championship Tournament.

Match #3 - HWL World Tag Team Championship Tournament - The Usos vs. Authors of Pain

Jimmy and Rezar start off for their respective tag teams and Jimmy clubs Rezar over the chest with a couple of big forearm shots, but Rezar just shrugs it off and grabs Jimmy under both arms and heaves him across the ring, sending him crashing to the mat. Jey then rushes in and jumps on Rezar's back, but Rezar simply thrusts himself forward, flipping Jey over him and driving him into the mat as well. Jimmy and Jey then rush back to their feet and connect with a Double Dropkick, this time driving Rezar back into the corner as the referee admonishes Jey and tries to get him out of the ring. Jimmy then follows up with a huge Splash on Rezar in the corner, but to no effect whatsoever as Rezar grabs Jimmy and connects with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex, driving all his weight down across Jimmy's chest. Rezar then makes the tag to Akam and sets Jimmy up in position across his knee with a Backbreaker as Akam dives off the middle rope and drives his knee across Jimmy's face. Jey then charges back into the ring again, but gets drilled by a colossal Lariat from Akam. AoP then follow up with colliding Powerbombs on both the Usos and both make the cover as the referee reluctantly makes the three count and declares AoP the winners.

AoP make their way to the back and who in that locker room can stand against the colossal might of Akam and Rezar as they advance through this tournament. It'll be up to the B Team to try to stop these two monsters next week in the semifinal round. We take you now to a word from our sponsors and when we return, it's women's action.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Back from the break, two of the most dominant women in the business are about to square off and only one can advance to Inauguration for a chance to become HWL's first women's champion. Klein makes her way to the ring, but as Charlotte starts to make her entrance, she's cracked across the back by a steel chair shot to the back from Rhea Ripley. Ripley gets one more chair shot across the back for good measure before security is able to pull Ripley away and force her to the back with Ripley screaming about nobody being more dominant in this division than her. Charlotte manages to get back up and push away the medical staff as she gets into the ring and orders the referee to start the match.

Match #4 - Women's Championship Qualifying Match - Charlotte Flair vs. Kelly Klein

The referee reluctantly acquiesces to Charlotte's demands and allows the match to begin and Charlotte tries to tie up with Klein, but her back immediately can't take the pressure after those two brutal chair shots and she drops to one knee where Klein smashes her in the face with a Forearm Shiver and quickly transitions to a Guillotine Choke, bending Charlotte brutally backward and doing untold damage to her already injured back and Charlotte isn't able to respond to the referee, who calls a stop to the match.

Kelly Klein will be advancing to the championship match at Inauguration, but she appears to have mixed emotions over what went down to make that happen. This could have been a match people would be talking about for years, but instead it was ruined from the get go by that Damn Rhea Ripley. Out announcers continue to demand justice for this as we go to commercial.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Back from the break, our next contest is the final quarterfinal in the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament as Enzo and Austin Aries make their way to the ring.

Match #5 - HWL Cruiserweight Championship Tournament - Enzo vs. Austin Aries

The two men square off in the middle of the ring and Enzo starts things off by launching a lugie in Aries' direction and Aries ducks out of the way and gives chase as Enzo dives out of the ring and takes off at a dead sprint in circles around the outside of the ring with Aries hot on his tail. After three laps around the ring, Enzo tries to dive back in, but Aries catches him by the feet and drags him back out to the floor where he lands with a thud. Aries then pounds Enzo with a series of Axe-handle shots to the back of the neck. Aries then grabs Enzo by the legs and swings him sideways, driving the side of his head into the barricade. Aries then rolls back into the ring to stop the referee's count and rolls back out as Enzo is trying to regain his feet and Aries connects with a Dropkick to the side of the head. Aries then pulls Enzo back to his feet and over to the steel rampway and proceeds to drop him on his head with a Brainbuster on the ramp. Aries drags Enzo back up to his feet again and tosses him back into the ring, but before he can climb back in after him, Big Cass comes charging down the rampway and Aries turns just in time to get his head smashed with a Big Boot from the seven footer and the referee calls for the bell, awarding the match to Aries by disqualification.

Cass then proceeds to pummel Aries and then hoists him up in a Gorilla Press and rams his ribs into the ring post before letting him crash from that height down to the floor. Cass then gets in a series of Knee Drops to the injured ribs and now Enzo comes out on wobbly legs and joins in with a few well placed kicks. Enzo then grabs a mic and says he didn't need this crap anyway. Enzo says he already proved two years ago he was the best Cruiserweight in the business and anybody that says otherwise has just been drinking the haterade. Enzo says he has more important business to take care of than some lame Cruiserweight Tournament. He and Cass then laugh about it as they make their way to the back.

Backstage, we see the Authors of Pain having a discussion with somebody we can't see behind a curtain. Who could it be they are getting their marching orders from. Akam and Rezar then head for the showers and our camera goes over and tries to get a look at who they were talking to behind the curtain, but they've already gone and it's time we took you to another word from our sponsors.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Back from the break, it's all about the World Heavyweight Championship for the rest of the night with just two matches remaining on the show. At ringside, it's an inflatable penis parade as Joey Ryan makes his way to the ring for this quarterfinal contest. Bully Ray makes his way out to the ring and pops several of the inflatable tube penises as drift within his reach as he's already in a bad mood apparently.

Match #6 - HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament - Joey Ryan vs. Bully Ray

The two men square off in the middle of the ring and Ryan urges Ray to try his hand in a test of strength with his lower member and Bully enthusiastically refuses to do so. Ryan then thrusts his groin out a couple of times and Bully responds by knocking him flat with a big right hand. As Ryan gets back to his feet, sunglasses askew and with his sucker still in his mouth, Bully rams the flat of his hand into the sucker stick, driving the candy forcefully into the back of Ryan's throat. Bully then follows up with a Powerbomb, sending Ryan's sunglasses flying out of the ring and into the first row of fans and Bully dives into the cover, but Ryan kicks out for a near fall. Bully pummels Ryan and angrily throws him into the corner and backs up across the ring and charges in, looking for a big Running Splash in the corner, but Ryan sidesteps and Bully crashes into the corner and Ryan rolls him up from behind for a near fall. Ryan then connects with a Dropkick to the knee and a DDT and while Bully is down, instead of going for a cover, Ryan takes Bully's right hand and places it on his package. Bully starts howling as he battles back up to one knee, but can't seem to get his hand free. Ryan then plays to the crowd and waves from side to side as he sends Bully flipping through the air with his patented Dick Suplex. Ryan then goes to the top turnbuckle and goes for a Flying Crossbody, but Bully catches him in midair and transitions Ryan up onto one shoulder and drives him into the mat with a Running Powerslam.  Bully then bounces off the ropes and goes for the Atomic Leg Drop, but Ryan rolls out of the way and Bully comes crashing down on his own tailbone with nothing to break his fall. Ryan then hits a Running Knee to the back of the head and says it's time for the Money Shot. Ryan heads up to the top of the turnbuckle in the corner, but Bully dives against the top rope, making Ryan lose his balance and crotching him on the top turnbuckle. Bully climbs up after him and sets up for a Superplex, but Ryan blocks it and takes Bully's hand and tries to force it to his genital region once again, but Bully fights him off and connects with a Headbutt to the jaw. Bully then sets up for the Superplex again and gets Ryan up, but Ryan reaches into his tights on the way up and produces a condom, which he shoves into Bully's open mouth. Ryan manages to get back down to his feet on the top turnbuckle as Bully struggles to spit out the condom and while he's concentrating on that, Ryan is able to connect with his Moustache Ride (Super Swinging Neckbreaker) and Ryan makes the cover for the three count.

Ryan celebrates his win as more Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Penises pop up along the rampway and Ryan advances to take on Brian Cage in the semifinals of the tournament. In the back, we see Brain Cage watching all this unfold on a monitor in the back. Cage promises Ryan isn't going to make a fool out of him next week and stalks off as we take our final commercial break of the night.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #2 (07/10/19)

Back from the break, it's Main Event time as Tomasso Ciampa and Adam Cole make their entrances for the final quarterfinal match in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament.

Match #7 - HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament - Adam Cole vs. Tomasso Ciampa

The two men square off and Cole tries to shoot in and grab a leg, but Ciampa dances away and boots him in the side of the jaw. Cole then tries for a Double-leg Takedown, but Ciampa blocks it and slips around behind Cole and tries for a Rear Naked Choke, but Cole ties himself up in the ropes to get out of it. Ciampa lets go, but delivers a couple of Forerarm Shivers to the kidney as a parting gift and then holds up his hands as he backs away to show the referee he's complying with his orders to break. The two men then circle each other in the middle of the ring and Cole faints another Double-Leg Takedown attempt and Ciampa goes to drop down and block it again, but Cole pulls back and connects with a Thrust Kick to the gut. Cole then follows up with a Facebuster and Ciampa stumbles backward into the corner, allowing Cole to charge across the ring and connect with a Flying Lariat in the corner, followed by a pose for the crowd and a big "ADAM COLE, BAY BAY." Cole then says he's going to end this early as he looks to target Ciampa's neck with a Brainbuster, but Ciampa fights him off with a flurry of punches to the mid-section and then a Jawbreaker. Ciampa then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Flying Boot Strike that flips Cole through the air and sends him crashing to the mat. Ciampa dives into the cover and hooks the leg, but Cole kicks out for a near fall. Ciampa quickly transitions into a Head Scissors, but Cole struggles to fight his way back up to his feet and manages to hook Ciampa around the middle as he dangles precariously with his legs wrapped around Cole's neck. Cole then tries to transition into position for the Styles Clash, but can only get one arm hooked and instead ends up driving Ciampa's shoulder into the mat with the maneuver. Cole then goes to the corner and starts to tune up the band, a la HBK as Ciampa fights to get back up to his feet and Cole goes for a Superkick and Ciampa moves to block it, but Cole anticipates this and pulls up short and instead pivots and drills Ciampa with a Discus Clothesline. Cole then dives off the middle rope as Ciampa again struggles to regain his feet and Cole drives the point of his elbow down across the back of Ciampa's neck. Cole then calls for a Package Piledriver and sets up for it, but Ciampa fights free and connects with an Enziguri to the back of the head and Cole falls through the ropes and out to the ring apron. Ciampa climbs out to the ring apron in front of him as Cole tries to clear the cobwebs loose and Ciampa charges and Spears Cole into the ring post and both men crash to the floor and Cole is writhing in pain after having his spine driven into the ring post, but both men are down. Bot Cole and Ciampa struggle to regain their feet and Ciampa slugs Cole in the gut. Cole responds with a Chop to the chest and then a Superkick that knocks Ciampa out on his feet as he struggles to hold himself up using the barricade. Cole then climbs up onto the barricade and pulls Ciampa up next to him and calls for the Brainbuster, but Ciampa kicks Cole's foot out from under him and Cole crashes down, crotching himself on top of the barricade and Ciampa follows up with a Hurricanranna to the floor. Ciampa then throws Cole back into the ring and heads up to the top rope as Cole stumbles back up to his feet. Ciampa goes for a Guillotine Leg Drop to the back of the neck, but Cole dodges out of the way and Ciampa crashes to the mat. Cole follows up with a Running Snapmere and then a Double Dropkick to the jaw and dives into the cover, but Ciampa kicks out for a near fall. Cole says enough messing around, it's time to end it and he goes for the Last Shot, but Ciampa ducks. Ciampa then rolls Cole up in a Schoolboy and almost gets the three, but Cole kicks out just in time. Cole nails one more Superkick and goes for the Panama City Sunrise, but Ciampa hooks the ropes to block it and Cole flips over and crashes to his back. Ciampa drops down into the cover and reaches back to hook the leg, but Cole counters and pulls Ciampa over into a pinning predicament. However, Ciampa rotates through and carries over backward to wind up back up on his feet and then drives his knee with the heavy brace on it right into Cole's face. Ciampa then follows up with the Fairy Tale Ending and makes the cover for the three count.

Both men remain down and out and Ciampa has survived an absolute war tonight to move on into the semifinals. He'll face Dolph Ziggler next week and all of the semifinals are set. We'll see you next week when we find out who moves on to wrestle for the titles at Inauguration.
