HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Pyro erupts throughout the HWL Arena in St. Louis as the debut episode of HWL's weekly television program, Overdrive, goes live over the airwaves.Tonight, in store for you we have the first round of tournament action as HWL's top competitors vie for the opportunity to become the inaugural champions of their respective divisions.

The first group of HWL champions will be crowned in just over three week's time at the first HWL Pay Per View event, HWL Inauguration, coming to you from the nation's capital via the HWL Network and your regular television providers. As the show kicks off we begin with a first round match in the Tag Team Championship Tournament as the New Day's Big E and Xavier Woods and The Revival make their entrances.

Match #1 - HWL Tag Team Championship Tournament - The Revival vs. New Day

Xavier and Dawson start things off and Dawson shoots on Woods to grab a leg and scores with a single-leg takedown. Dawson then rotates quickly to the head of Woods and delivers a series of insulting slaps around the back of the head and ears. Woods begins to power back up to his feet and Dawson puts him in a side headlock, but Woods quickly pushes him off into the ropes and drops down to the mat as Dawson bounces back and jumps over him. Woods then pops back up to his feet and nails Dawson in the chest with a dropkick as he rebounds back off the ropes and Dawson goes down hard and rolls out to the floor. Woods then goes over to the ropes and prepares to spring out over the top and out to the floor, but Dawson quickly stumbles out of range and back over to his corner to re-enter the ring. Dawson slides back in and makes the tag to Wilder and Woods and Big E play to the crowd as they make a tag and the New Day's powerhouse enters the match. Big E and Wilder engage in a Greco-Roman Knuckle-Lock and Big E easily overpowers Wilder and forces his hands down to the mat and stomps on his fingers. Big E then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Kne Lift as Wilder regains his feet and tries to shake the pain out of his fingers from the stomp. The knee strike knocks Wilder loopy and he falls back against the ropes where Big E winds him up for an Irish Whip and knocks him flat in the middle of the ring with a huge Shoulder Block. Big E then drops down into the cover, but Wilder quickly kicks out at one. Big E then drags Wilder back up to his feet by the hair and slams him face first into the New Day turnburckle and makes the tag to Woods. Woods comes in and pins Wilder back against the corner and delivers a series of Knife-edge Chops across the chest. Woods then plants both feet in Wilder's gut and Monkey Flips him across the ring. Woods tries to follow up with an Asai Moonsault, but Wilder drives both knees up into Woods' mid-section and rolls him up in a Small Package for a near fall. Wilder drags Woods back up to his feet and hooks his tights as he pitches him through the ropes and shoulder first into the ring post in a neutral corner. Wilder then goes over and makes the tag to Dawson, who runs along the ring apron and drives a Running Knee into the side of Woods' head, pinned up against the ring post. Wilder, still in the ring, follows up with a German Suplex, dropping Woods on the back of his head as the referee admonishes Wilder to adhere to his count and forces him out of the ring. Dawson quickly slides in and goes for the cover as Wilder obliges the referee and goes back to his corner and now Big E comes diving in to make the save. The referee now forces Big E back to the New Day's corner as Wilder and Dawson get in a quick Double DDT and Wilder goes back to the ring apron before the referee can see anything. Wilder then sticks his boot in through the ropes and Dawson sends Woods crashing face first into it and makes the tag to Wilder. Dawson and Wilder then Double Suplex Woods into the corner and Woods crashes to the mat on the back of his neck. Big E has seen enough and comes charging back into the ring bellowing and Dawson and Wilder catch him coming with a pair of simultaneous Dropkicks to each knee. Wilder follows that up with a Sliding Dropkick that sends Big E careening out under the bottom rope and to the floor with a thud as Woods stumbles back up to his feet and wanders directly into the Shatter Machine. Wilder dives into the cover and hooks the leg as The Revival pick up the victory.

Dawson and Wilder celebrate their accomplishment as they head to the back. A look at the tournament bracket shows that The Revival will meet either The Goodbrothers, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, or The Briscoes, Jay and Mark, in the semifinals and we take you to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Back from the break, we see Elias in the back, tuning his guitar and trying to rhyme Black Heart with Dumb Fart and mumbling to himself that not every line is a winner. We'll see Elias in action later on tonight against Tommaso Ciampa in the first round of the HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament.

Back at ringside, we're ready for our next matchup, another tag team contest as The B Team, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas, and The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, make their way to the ring.

Match #2 - HWL Tag Team Championship Tournament - The B Team vs. The Young Bucks

All four men square off in the middle of the ring to get things started and The Young Bucks land stereo Dropkicks to send the B Team rolling out of the ring. Matt and Nick then come flying out over the top rope, looking for simultaneous Tope Con Hilos, but Axel and Dallas both counter into Power Bombs out on the floor. Axel then quickly feed Nick back into the ring and makes the cover, but Nick kicks out for a near fall. Axel then hooks Nick by the legs and swings him sideways, driving the side of his head into the bottom turnbuckle and makes the tag to Dallas. Dallas comes in and props Nick up in the corner and delivers a series of stomps to the chest and then drags Nick out of the corner and goes for the cover. Nick appears completely out of it after the combination of the Powerbomb on the floor and being swung head first into the turnbuckle and doesn't make a move to kick out, but Matt comes diving in with a Guillotine Leg Drop to the back of Dallas' head to break up the count. Axel comes back in with a Running Axe-handle Smash to the face and drives Matt back out of the ring, allowing Dallas to drag Nick back up by the hair and deliver a Bo Dog for the three count and the win.

Dallas and Axel make their way to the back as they advance to the semifinals of the tag team championship tournament, but as they exit our cameras cut back to the ring where Matt checks on his fallen brother when the lights suddenly go out. When the lights come back up, the ring is surrounded by Marty Scurll, PCO and Brody King, together known as Villain Enterprises. Scurll directs traffic into the ring where Matt tries to beg for his fallen brother's well-being, only to be kicked in the back of the head by King. King and PCO then deliver a tandem Powerbomb on Matt and turn their attention to Nick. Scurll wraps Matt in a Chicken Wing Submission and forces him to watch as PCO and King drop Nick on his head with a Spike Piledriver. King then rolls out to the floor and drags Nick's limp carcass out on the ring apron as PCO goes up to the top rope. PCO then connects with a Moonsault to the ring apron. Villain Enterprises then stand tall over the fallen Young Bucks as we take you to a commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Back from the break, the cruiserweights are up next as Pete Dunne and PAC make their entrances for this first-round matchup in the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.

Match #3 - HWL Cruiserweight Championship Tournament - Pete Dunne vs. PAC

The two cruiserweights eye each other tentatively from across the ring as the match gets under way and Dunne tries to shoot in and grab a leg, but PAC dances out of reach. Dunne tries again for a takedown, but PAC again maneuvers out of the way and connects with an Enziguri to the back of the head. PAC then mounts Dunne and connects with a series of Forearm Shivers until Dunne manages to get ahold of his right wrist and turn it to the side. Dunne then controls his way back up to his feet and begins working on PAC's fingers, bending them back and finally snapping them in opposite directions. Dunne then kicks PAC in the gut and delivers an Underhook Suplex. Dunne then bounces off the ropes and follows up with a Knee Drop across the face and makes the cover, but PAC kicks out at about 1 1/2. Dunne now goes back after the fingers, but PAC kips up and counters into an Armdrag and then Clotheslines Dunne end over end out over the top rope and sends him crashing out to the floor. PAC then heads up to the top rope as Dunne stumbles back up to his feet on the floor and PAC does a tightrope walk out across the top rope before pivoting and connecting with a Corkscrew Moonsault out to the floor. PAC then pulls up a section of padding on the floor and sets up for a Piledriver onto the exposed concrete, but Dunne spins out of his grip and counters into a Short-arm Clothesline. As PAC rushes back up to his feet, Dunne connects with an Enziguri and PAC topples over the barricade and out into the front row of the crowd. Dunne stalks PAC as he climbs over the barricade himself and PAC from one knee connects with a Low Blow, safely out of the referee's field of view. PAC then stands Dunne back up straight with a European Upper Cut and then a Back Elbow Smash to the nose and pitches Dunne over the barricade and sends him crashing on his back onto the exposed concrete. PAC then stands atop the barricade and dives off with a 450 Splash onto Dunne on the concrete. PAC then hurls Dunne back into the ring and slide back in himself and quickly makes the cover, but Dunne kicks out for a near fall. PAC then puts the boots to Dunne and hoists him up into position for a Running Powerbomb, but Dunne counters at the last moment into a Hurricanranna, pitching PAC into a flip and sending him crashing upside down into the corner. Dunne then hooks an arm and puts PAC into an Armbar as he pulls his fingers in opposite directions and yells for him to tap out, but PAC frantically ties both his feet up in the ropes to force a break. Dunne clubs PAC over the back of the head and neck a couple times as the two men regain their feet and Dunne tries to whip PAC off into the ropes, but PAC counters into a Crucifix Pinning Combination for a near fall. Rushing now back up to their feet, PAC goes for another Enziguri, but Dunne ducks out of the way. Dunne then hooks a leg and starts to wrap PAC up in the STF Submission Hold, but PAC successfully gets loose with a thumb to the eye. PAC then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Dropkick to the point of the jaw. He follows up with a Brainbuster and then heads to the top rope and finishes Dunne off with the Red Arrow for the victory.

PAC debuts with a huge win here on the first night of HWL action and we cut up to a skybox where we see Big Sugar joined by NWA President Billy Corgan and Lucha Underground's Dario Cueto watching the action together. Seeing Big Sugar on the big screen, chants of H-Dub-L, H-Dub-L start to ring out and the boss acknowledges the crowd as we take you to a commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Back from commercial, a spotlight shines on the ring as Elias prepares to serenade the crowd with his music. Elias goes on to say this is maybe the worst dump of a town he's ever seen, but with him being the greatest acquisition the HWL has ever seen, he's going to put the HWL Arena and this eyesore of a town on the map, until Big Sugar wises up and decides to move the company to Los Angeles like the Rams did. Elias is then unable to say anything else as he's booed emphatically for the next three minutes until finally Ciampa's music hits. Ciampa, thought by many to have suffered a potentially career-ending neck injury earlier this year rushes down to the ring and he and Elias waste no time trading punches as the bell sounds to get this match under way.

Match #4 - HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament - Elias vs. Tomasso Ciampa

Ciampa gets the better of Elias from jump street and presses the drifter back against the ropes and delivers a stiff forearm shot to the jaw that knocks Elias completely loopy and he drops through the ropes out to the ring apron. Ciampa then grabs Elias by the hair and pulls him back up right, but Elias claws at his eyes and grabs the back of his head as he drops to the floor, pulling Ciampa's throat down across the top rope and causing who knows what level of trauma to Ciampa's surgically-repaired neck as Ciampa is snapped backward and sent crashing to the mat. Elias comes back in and connects with two quick Elbow Drops and makes the cover, but Ciampa kicks out. Elias delivers a flurry of clubbing blows to the back of the neck and calls for the Drift Away, but Ciampa counters and maneuvers his head under Elias' chin and drops to his knees, driving his skull up into the drifter's jaw. Ciampa then follows up with a Double Underhook DDT and rolls Elias into a cover, but Elias gets his foot up on the bottom rope to interrupt the count at two. Ciampa then viciously bites at Elias' forehead, drawing blood as the referee admonishes Ciampa and forces him to release the illegal hold before a five count. Ciampa rolls over and spits out a wad of blood as Elias rolls out to the floor and looks mortified over the blood now streaming down from his scalp. Ciampa catches Elias unawares with a Baseball Slide right between the shoulder blades, pitching Elias over headfirst into the barricade. Ciampa goes out after Elias, but Elias grabs him by the front of the tights and pulls him head and shoulder first into the ring steps. Elias then connects with Drift Away out on the floor and rolls back into the ring and frantically orders the referee to count him out. The referee begrudgingly complies, but Ciampa somehow makes it back up to his feet and slides back into the ring just in time. Elias then goes for Drift Away again, but Ciampa counters into a Lifting Double-arm DDT and makes the cover, getting the three count and the win.

Ciampa is slow getting back to his feet as he celebrates a huge debut victory, advancing to the quarterfinals of the championship tournament next week against Adam Cole. As Ciampa starts to leave, Elias suddenly rushes back on screen from out on the floor as Ciampa sticks his head out through the ropes and Elias smashes his guitar over Ciampa's head. Ciampa collapses in a heap back in the ring as Elias celebrates his vengeance and makes his way to the back. Ciampa lays motionless, looking up at the lights as we take you now to hear a word from our sponsors.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Back from the break, Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish are standing by backstage and proceed to mock the plight of Tomasso Ciampa. Cole says that there is no way that even at 100 percent that Ciampa can hang with him in the ring and now that he's substantially less than that, he shouldn't even bother to show up next week. Cole says he's moving on in this tournament next week and that is a fact that is Undisputed.

Back at ringside, it's time for women's action as Lacey Evans and Paige make their way to the ring. Unlike the other titles, there is no Women's Championship tournament, but instead a series of three qualifying matches, the winners of which will advance to Inauguration to compete for the title in a Triple Threat Elimination Match.

Match #5 - Triple Threat Elimination Qualifier - Lacey Evans vs. Paige

The two women come face to face and nose to nose in the middle of the ring and Lacey is giving Paige the business verbally and Paige just shrugs it off and responds with a nasty Headbutt to Lacey’s nose, knocking her off her feet. Lacey rolls over to the ropes and looks up in shock at Paige as a little blood trickles from her nostril. Lacey produces her hankie and wipes the blood away and tosses it to the floor. Lacey then looks furious as she gets back up to her feet, but that turns into shock again as Paige charges right at her and Clothesline’s her out over the top rope and to the floor. Paige then rolls out after her now and is having a spot of fun with Lacey as she hooks a hand in both sides of Lacey’s waistband and gives a good yank up, the force of which pulls Lacey up off her feet. Paige then finds the bloody hankie and uses it to put the Mandible Claw on Lacey out on the floor and Lacey is tapping out for all she’s worth, but it means nothing out on the floor. Paige finally lets Lacey go and throws her back in the ring. Paige then gets overconfident and makes a mistake by going up to the top rope and Lacey dives against the corner, knocking Paige’s feet out from under her and crouching her on the top turnbuckle. Lacey climbs up after her and delivers a Superplex. Lacey rolls through, pulling Paige back up with her and quickly follows up with a Brainbuster. Lacey then connects with a Standing Moonsault into the cover and hold the leg, but Paige kicks out at the last second. Lacey drives some vicious knees into Paige’s mid-section and pulls her back up and sets up for another Brainbuster, but Paige spins out of it and connects with a Headbutt to the jaw. Both wrestlers take a tumble off the move with Lacey landing on her back and Paige landing on top of her for the cover, but Lacey kicks out at two. Both women gingerly get back up to their feet and Paige utters a primal scream and charges across the ring, but runs directly into the Woman’s Right. Lacey slowly drops into the cover and hooks the leg for the three count.

Lacey looks down in disgust at Paige as she has her hand raised in victory and HWL’s resident Lady becomes the first to qualify for the title match at Inauguration later this month. A graphic hyping that match and showing Evans’ photo with two unknown silhouettes appears at the bottom of the screen as Lacey makes her way to the back and we cut to commercial.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Back from the break, it's our second World Heavyweight Championship Tournament match of the night as Seth Rollins and Brian Cage make their way to the ring

Match #6 - HWL World Heavyweight Championship Tournament - Brian Cage vs. Seth Rollins

Rollins ducks a Clothesline from Cage as we get under way and Rollins springs off the ropes into a Flying Crossbody, but Cage catches him out of midair and brings him crashing down over his knee. Cage then kicks Rollins in the back of the head and pulls him up by the tights and hurls him out over the top rope and sends him crashing down to the floor. Cage rolls out after Rollins and tries for a Running Shoulder Block, but Rollins moves out of the way and lets Cage charge shoulder first into the ring steps. Rollins then connects with a Stomp onto the top of the steps and has to work really hard to drag Cage back up and put him back in the ring. Rollins then goes up to the top turnbuckle, but is distracted as Kenny Omega's music hits and one of HWL hottest signings makes his way out onto the top of the rampway as the announce team goes nuts about Omega not even being a part of this tournament. Rollins then points out to Omega and demands to know just what in the hell is going on and Omega simply shrugs and readjusts his sunglasses. The distraction costs Rollins as Cage catches him unawares and charges up to the top turnbuckle and delivers a thunderous Belly-to-Belly Suplex from the top rope, landing halfway across the ring on top of Rollins. Cage then quickly follows up with the Drill Claw and makes the cover for the three count.

Cage celebrates his victory as he warily keeps an eye out for Omega on the rampway, but Omega seems to only have eyes for Rollins and we we hear him say something about Rollins' comments on Twitter about how nobody can do what he does, as well as he does, as often as he does. Omega says we'll see about that and exits through the curtain and we cut back to Cage as we see him advanced in the bracket to the tournament semifinals as we take our final commercial break of the night.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #1 (07/03/19)

Back from the final commercial break, we're with you now to the conclusion of the show as it's Main Event time and The Goodbrothers, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, and the Briscoe Brothers, Jay and Mark, make their way to the ring for this tag team tournament match.

Match #7 - HWL Tag Team Championship Tournament - The Briscoes vs. The Goodbrothers

Mark Briscoe and Anderson start off the match and tie up and Mark quicky transitions into a Side Headlock. Anderson tries to push Mark off into the ropes, but Mark only cinches in the headlock tighter and goes down to one knee. Mark then suddenly lets go and boxes Anderson's ears, following up with a Crane Kick and dives in the cover, but Anderson quickly kicks out. Anderson then gets back to his feet and has to duck a Superkick from Mark and counters into a Schoolboy Rollup, but Mark kicks out. Anderson then connects with a Dropkick, knocking Mark back into the Goodbrothers corner and then charges in and connects with a Flying Lariat. Anderson makes the tag to Gallows and the Goodbrothers powerhouse comes in and rocks Mark with a Short-arm Clothesline and drops him with a Sidewalk Slam and makes the cover, but Mark again quickly kicks out. Gallows starts to drag Mark back up to his feet, but Mark fires back with a flurry of Rabbit Punches to the mid-section. Mark then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Dropkick to the knee, flipping Gallows over and onto his back from the impact. Mark then makes the tag to Jay and the Briscoes deliver a Double Suplex. Jay mounts Gallows and connects with some big right hands upside the head and then hoists the big man up into position for a Piledriver, but Gallows counters into a Back Body Drop. Gallows then makes the tag to Anderson and connects with a Backbreaker, holding Jay in place as Anderson comes off the top rope with a Guillotine Leg Drop. Anderson then dives into the cover, but Jay kicks out for a near fall. Anderson then puts the boots to Jay and tags back in Gallows. Anderson pulls Jay up and holds him in place as Gallows comes off the top rope and connects with a Double Ax-handle Smash to the skull. Gallows then bounces off the ropes and tries for an Atomic Leg Drop, but Jay rolls out of the way and Gallows crashes down to the mat. Jay then bounces off the ropes and Mark tags him on the back as he goes by and Jay drills Gallows, in a seated position, with a Dropkick to the point of the chin, knocking the big man flat. Mark then comes off the top rope with the Froggy Bow into the cover, but Anderson is in to break it up. Jay nails Anderson with a Big Boot to the side of the head and Anderson rolls out to the floor. Jay and Mark then set up for a Spike Piledriver, but Gallows gets out of it and hurls Mark into the corner, knocking Jay off the top rope and sending him crashing out to the floor. Anderson then springs back in off the top rope and takes Mark down with a Flying Leg Lariat across the throat. Gallows and Anderson then finish Mark off with the Magic Killer and make the cover for the three count.

The Goodbrothers advance to take on The Revival in the semifinals of the tournament and celebrate their victory as they make their way to the back and the Briscoes look on angrily from the ring, no doubt already plotting revenge as we go off the air. Thanks for joining us for the debut episode of HWL Overdrive. Tune in next week for more tournament action.
