HWL Overdrive Episode #7 (08/14/19)

Pyros light up the HWL Arena in St. Louis as we kick off this week’s edition of Overdrive. Tonight, two titles are on the line and we are just days away from Pay Per View action where we will see all four titles defend, in addition to an Undertaker versus Sting dream match and more. It looks like we are not wasting any time tonight as the World Heavyweight Champion Joey Ryan makes his way to the ring. Ryan calls for a mic, but before he can say anything, Samoa Joe makes his way to the ring. The two men stand across the ring from each other with Joe glaring daggers through Ryan. Ryan then drops the mic and takes the title off and lays down the title in the middle of the ring. Ryan then starts to leave, but Joe stops him. Joe then picks up the mic and says he knows Ryan was looking for an out, a way to get out of this match without having to lose to him so he could walk out that door and claim that he never really lost, blame it all on a beef with management and go around calling himself the real champion, but Joe says that doesn’t sit well with him. Joe says he isn’t going to be given a damn thing, but he’ll damn sure take it and tells the referee to ring the damn bell.

Match #1 – HWL World Heavyweight Championship – Joey Ryan vs. Samoa Joe

Ryan tries to leave again, but Joe pulls him back. Ryan takes a swing, but Joe blocks it and drops Ryan with a Headbutt. Joe then bounces off the ropes and connects with not one, not two, but three consecutive Running Senton Splashes. Joe then drags Ryan back up and hurls him into the corner and Ryan crashes into the turnbuckle chest first. Joe then charges in behind him and connects with an Avalanche Splash in the corner. Joe then hoists Ryan up and connects with the Muscle Buster and then puts him in the Conquina Clutch, forcing Ryan to tap out.

Joe then grabs the championship and holds it up over his head as he is announced as the winner and NEW World Heavyweight Champion. Overdrive is off to a rocking start tonight as now Samoa Joe moves into the championship match at Heatwave against Adam Cole. Our broadcast team runs down a list of what else you will see Saturday night on Pay Per View and we take you to a word from our sponsors.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #7 (08/14/19)

Back from the break, OvE’s Dave and Jake Crist and Sami Callihan and Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly are having a conversation in the hallway. Both groups say they are fed up with Suicide’s meddling. They make a pact to work together tonight and search the arena for the masked freak and make sure he can’t bother them again. They split into groups of two with Cole and Callihan going off together while Fish & O’Reilly and the Crist brothers go in two other directions.

Back at ringside, Bayley, Sonya Deville, Peyton Royce and Taya Valkyrie make their entrances for our next contest.

Match #2 – Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match - Bayley vs. Sonya Deville vs. Peyton Royce vs. Taya Valkyrie
The four women square off to start things off and Sonya hits Taya with a Running Dropkick, knocking her backward into the corner. Royce then hits Sonya with a Thrust Kick to the gut and Sonya doubles over and turns toward Bayley, who delivers a Belly-to-Bayley Suplex and covers her for the three count as Sonya is eliminated. Taya then rolls Bayley up from behind, but Bayley kicks out. Taya goes for a DDT, but Bayley shoves her away into a Spinning Heel Kick from Royce. Royce then dives onto Taya and Bayley jumps on Royce’s back, doubling down on the cover as the referee makes the three count and Taya is eliminated, leaving up with just Royce and Bayley. The two women circle each other before Bayley shoots in and trips Royce up with a Double-leg Takedown. Royce then tries to get her legs wrapped around Bayley’s head, but Bayley slips three and connects with a big right hand before mounting Royce for some quick Forearm Strikes. Bayley then heads up to the top rope, but Royce cuts her off with a series of punches to the side of the head and Ric Flair’s her off the top rope, sending her crashing to the mat. Royce then follows up with a Running Dropkick to the side of the head and goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out. Royce puts the boots to Bayley and then ducks out through the ropes and starts to head up to the top turnbuckle, but before she can reach it, Bayley comes running over and clocks her in the jaw with a big Forearm Shiver. Bayley then climbs up to the middle turnbuckle and continues to pummel Royce and then hooks her under the shoulder and pulls her in over the top rope, twisting into a Belly-to-Bayley Suplex as the two crash to the mat together off  the second rope with Bayley landing on top and hooking a leg for the three count.

Bayley celebrates the victory and makes her way to the back. Backstage, we see the Undisputed Era’s Fish and O’Reilly walking backstage, looking for Suicide and decide to check in a men’s room. They go in busting open doors and in the last stall is Kazarian, reading a newspaper, in the middle of handling his toilet business. Kazarian says, “Hey, how about a little privacy?” Fish and O’Reilly exit, waving their hands in front of their faces to ward off the smell. As they leave the restroom, they notice Suicide lurking at the top of a stairwell that leads up to the rafters. They give chase, but Suicide eludes them and by the time our camera man catches up to them, Suicide is nowhere to be seen. O’Reilly kicks at the railing of the stairwell in frustration as we go to commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #7 (08/14/19)

Back from the break, it’s time for our next contest as Bully Ray, Tomasso Ciampa, PAC and Drew McIntyre make their entrances for this next contest.

Match #3 – Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match - Drew McIntyre vs. PAC vs. Ciampa vs. Bully Ray

The four men square off as the match gets under way and McIntyre squares off with Pac while Ciampa and Bully Ray tie up in the opposite corner. McIntyre Clotheslines Pac out over the top rope and then turns his attention to the other two, but Pac hangs on and skins the cat back into the ring and takes McIntyre down with a Chop Block. Pac then connects with a Standing Moonsault and makes the cover, but McIntyre kicks out. Bully Ray now hits Ciampa with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex, driving him down onto McIntyre in the process. Bully then goes for a Mafia Kick on Pac, but Pac ducks out of the way and connects with an Enziguri.  Ciampa then hits Bully with the Fairy-Tale Ending and Pac comes off the top ropes and hits Bully with the Red Arrow and makes the cover for the three count. Before Pac can get all the way back up to his feet, McIntyre nails him with a Claymore and covers him for the three count and Pac and Bully are both eliminated, leaving just McIntyre and Ciampa. The two men square off and Ciampa lunges at McIntyre, but McIntyre clubs him in the gut. McIntyre then presses Ciampa back against the corner and pummels him with a flurry of punches to the gut. McIntyre then tries to whip Ciampa across the ring, but Ciampa counters into a Facebreaker. Ciampa then follows up with a Package Piledriver and goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out for a near fall. Ciampa puts the boots to McIntyre and calls for the Fairy Tale Ending, but McIntyre tackles him backward into the corner and follows up with Shoulder Thrusts to the gut. McIntyre then follows up with a Short-arm Clothesline and then bounces off the ropes and drills Ciampa with the Claymore Kick. McIntyre stands back as Ciampa slowly rolls over and battles back up to one knee and Mcintyre kicks him in the gut. McIntyre then drags Ciampa the rest of the way up to his feet and drives him in to the mat with the FutureShock DDT and covers him for the three count.

McIntyre celebrates as he picks up the win and makes his way to the back. Backstage, we see the Crist brothers sneaking along the hallway with Dave holding a chair in hand as they look around corners and into garbage bins as they search for Suicide. Suddenly they round a corner and there Suicide is, standing by the catering table. Dave charges with the chair and takes a wild swing, but Suicide ducks and Dave brings the chair crashing down onto the catering table, sending sandwiches, chips, soda and water flying everywhere. Suicide then Mule kicks Dave in the nuts and grabs the chair. Jake comes at Suicide, but Suicide throws the chair into his face. With both Crists down, Suicide casually picks up a sandwich and stalks off as we take a final commercial break.

Re: HWL Overdrive Episode #7 (08/14/19)

Back from the break, it’s Main Event time as Scorpio Sky and Austin Aries make their way to the ring for our last championship match been of the night for the Cruiserweight Championship and both TJ Perkins and the rest of So Cal Uncensored have been barred from ringside for this match-up.

Match #4 – HWL Cruiserweight Championship – Austin Aries vs. Scorpio Sky

The two men square off as the match gets under way and Sky rocks Aries with a European Upper Cut and then springboards off the middle rope and takes Aries down with a Flying Leg Lariat. Sky makes the cover, but Aries kicks out for a near fall. Sky pummels Aries with a series of big right hands and then springboards off the ropes again and connects with an Asai Moonsault into another cover, but Aries kicks out again. Sky then heads up to the top turnbuckle and goes for a Shooting Star Press, but Aries rolls out of the way and Sky crashes to the mat. Aries then follows up with a Running Dropkick to the side of the head. Aries then tries to lock in the Last Chancery, but Sky ties himself up in the ropes to force a break. Aries breaks the hold and puts the boots to Sky. Aries then springs up off the middle rope and drives his boot down across Sky’s spine. Aries then drags Sky to the middle of the ring and tries to put him in the Last Chancery again, but Sky fights him off with a series of Elbows. Sky then battles back up to his feet and drives Aries down across his knee with a Yurinagi. Sky then heads up to the top turnbuckle, but Aries cuts him off and crotches him on the top turnbuckle. Aries then climbs up to the middle turnbuckle and delivers a Brainbuster from the middle turnbuckle and makes the cover for the three count.

Aries retains his title as he advances to defend it this Sunday against Pete Dunne at Heatwave. In the back, we see Suicide from behind as he tosses his half-eaten sandwich in the trash and pulls his mask back into place and turns around. Suddenly, he’s jumped from behind by Adam Cole and Sami Callihan. Callihan slams Suicide’s head into the wall and Cole rips off his mask and we see that he is… just some random dude. Cole and Callihan are flummoxed by this and the guy explains he’s not the real Suicide, he’s just a member of the ring crew. He says the real guy paid him not five minutes ago to take his spare costume and wander around until he found them. He says Suicide left them a message. The guy then produces a card and hands it to Callihan, but before he can open it, Cole snatches it away. Cole opens it and we see it says “See you later, Suckers.” Cole pushes the card into Callihan’s chest and storms off in disgust. Callihan takes the card and yells “I am not a Sucker.” Callihan then punts the fake Suicide in the head and dumps him upside down into a garbage can and walks away as we go off the air. Join us Saturday for Heatwave, only on Pay Per View.
