HWL Overdrive episode #14 (10/02/19)

Pyros light up the HWL Arena in St. Louis as we kick off this week’s show and three titles will be defended tonight and we’re getting right to it with the Cruiserweight Championship on the line to kick off the show as Teddy Hart and the champion, Austin Aries, make their way to the ring.

Match #1 – HWL Cruiserweight Championship – Austin Aries vs. Teddy Hart

The two men square off as the match gets under way and Hart goes for a Spinning Heel Kick right away, but Aries catches him in a Backbreaker. Aries then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Dropkick to the side of the head. Aries then whips Hart into the corner and follows him in with a Flying Lariat. Aries wraps his arm around Hart’s neck as he climbs up to the middle turnbuckle from behind Hart’s back and then flips over Hart into a Diving Diamond Cutter. Aries then follows up with a Brainbuster in the middle of the ring and makes the cover for the three count.

Aries is your winner and STILL the Cruiserweight Champion. In the back, our broadcast colleague is standing by with World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. Punk says your garden variety champion might blow off the challenge of four contenders emerging at once with a guaranteed shot at his title and not take it seriously until it was too late. However, Punk says he’s going to meet things head on by taking on the toughest challenge of the bunch, at least on paper, in Triple H. However, Punk says most champions wouldn’t know and despise Triple H the way he does and tonight, he’s going to expose just how easy it is to make the King of Kings bow at his feet.

After a word from our sponsors, we return for this next match as Christopher Daniels and Matt Hardy make their way to the ring.

Match #2 – Matt Hardy vs. Christopher Daniels

The two men square off to get things started and then they lock up and Daniels goes to a Side Headlock. Hardy then shoves Daniels off into the ropes and connects with a Back Elbow Smash to the face.  Hardy then follows up with an Atomic Leg Drop and looks for the early cover, but Daniels kicks out.  Hardy then puts the boots to Daniels and starts to pull him back to his feet, but Daniels tackles him backward into the corner. Daniels then props Hardy up on the middle turnbuckle and nails him with an Upper Cut.  Daniels then goes for a Frankensteiner from the top rope, but Hardy blocks it and instead Powerbombs Daniels to the mat.  Hardy then lets Daniels stumble back up to his feet and kicks him in the gut and then connects with the Twist of Fate and covers him for the three count.
Hardy picks up the win and in the back we see a split screen of Women’s World Champion Bayley and Alexa Bliss as Bayley prepares to make her first title defense, coming up next after this word from our sponsors.

Back from the break, Alexa Bliss and Bayley make their way to the ring for this championship match as Bayley looks to take out the first of four challengers to emerge from the first ever Women’s War Games match at Fall Brawl.

Match #3 – HWL Women’s World Championship – Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss

The two women go toe-to-toe as the match gets under way and Bayley goes to a Side Headlock and tackles Bliss to the mat, landing on top of her. Bliss slowly battles back up to her feet and drives some Forearm Shivers into Bayley’s lower back. Bliss then wraps Bayley around the middle and drives her in the mat with a Belly-to-Back Side Suplex. Bliss then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Dropkick to the side of the head. Bliss then drives her knees down across Bayley’s stomach and then tries to follow up with a Standing Moonsault, but Bayley drives both knees up into her chest and then pins Bliss in a Small Package, but Bliss kicks out for a near fall. Bayley then ducks a Clothesline from Bliss as both women rush back up to their feet and Bayley kicks her in the gut and connects with a Gutwrench Suplex.  Bayley then bounces off the ropes and hits a Running Senton. Bayley then drags Bliss back up by the hair, but Bliss fires back with a series of punches to the gut. Bliss then goes for a Swinging Neckbreaker, but Bayley slips out and shoves her off into the corner with authority, driving the air out of Bliss.  Bliss then turns and stumbles back into a Bayley-to-Belly Suplex and Bayley covers her for the three count.

Bayley is the winner and STILL Women’s World Champion. In the back we see Elias strumming his guitar and warming up. He promises a special performance tonight and it’s coming up next after this commercial break.

Back from the break, Elias is in the ring and after his introduction begins a song about how Fall Brawl was horrible without him and how the only way it could have been worse would be if it had been held here in St. Louis. Elias is then interrupted as the lights go out and war drums can be heard through the arena as Sting makes his way to the ring, interrupting Elias’ performance and setting up our next contest.

Match #4 – Elias vs. Sting

Sting puts Elias on his heels with a series of jabs as the match gets under way and then whips him off into the ropes and connects with a Big Boot and Elias rolls out to the floor.  Sting comes over after him and Elias reaches in and hooks him by the leg, tripping Sting and sending him crashing to the mat. Elias then pulls Sting out to the floor and throws him head first into the barricade. Elias then puts the boots to Sting and the referee admonishes Elias and tells him to get back into the ring.  Elias waves the referee off and goes back to Sting, but Sting from one knee punches Elias in the gut and shoves him backward into the ring post. Sting then rushes back up and tries to smash Elias into the ring post with a Stinger Splash, but Elias moves out of the way and Sting drives his own head into the post, knocking himself for a loop. Elias then throws Sting back into the ring and slides in and Sting staggers up to his feet and stumbles backward and nearly falls down. Instead, he comes back at Elias with a big right hand, but Elias ducks out of the way and hits Sting with the Drift Away and makes the cover for the three count.
Elias is the winner and in the back we see Triple H taping his wrists and finishing up his final preparations for our Main Event. When we come back, HHH goes for the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk. Let’s take you now to a final word from our sponsors. When we come back, we’ll stay with you to the end of the show.

Back from the break, it’s Main Event time and we’re staying right here until the conclusion of the World Heavyweight Championship match as Triple H and CM Punk make their entrances.

Match #5 – HWL World Heavyweight Championship – CM Punk vs. Triple H

Punk takes the early advantage with a series of kicks, but then tries to whip HHH off into the ropes and HHH counters into a Short-arm Elbow Smash and then follows up with a Facebreaker.  HHH then sends Punk off into the ropes and connects with a Double-A Spinebuster into the cover, but Punk kicks out quickly.  HHH then drags Punk up by the arm and drives him back against the corner where he delivers a series of Knife-edge Chops.  HHH then tries to plant Punk with a Sidewalk Slam, but Punk is able to counter into a Side Russian Leg Sweep. Punk then takes a page out of HHH’s playbook with a Harley Race Knee Drop across the forehead. Punk then springboards off the middle rope as HHH stumbles back up and Punk connects with a Flying Crossbody into the cover, but HHH kicks out for a near fall. Punk goes to a Side Headlock on his down opponent, but HHH fights back up to his feet and shoves Punk off into the ropes, knocking him down with a Shoulder Block.  HHH then bounces off the ropes, but Punk pops back up and connects with a Dropkick, knocking HHH through the ropes and out to the ring apron. Punk then nails HHH with a Roundhouse Kick to the temple as he pulls himself up on the apron and Punk takes HHH by the back of the head before he can fall out to the floor and slams him head first into the steel part of the turnbuckle between the pad and the post. Punk then Suplexes HHH back into the ring and heads up to the top rope, channeling the Macho Man with a Diving Elbow Drop. Punk then calls for the GTS as he lets HHH regain his feet and Punk tries to hoist him up, but HHH fights his way free with a series of Elbow Smashes to the side of the head.  HHH then gets back down to the mat and kicks Punk in the gut.  HHH then goes for the Pedigree, but Punk counters into a Back Body Drop. Punk then nails HHH with another Roundhouse Kick to the side of the head and this time connects with the GTS and makes the cover for the three count.

Punk is the winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion. What’s next as we roll on toward Halloween Havoc, live on Pay Per View later this month? Punk and Bayley both have three more War Games challengers to face. Tune in again next week to find out who they may face next, but for now, we bid you good night. Thanks for joining us.
