HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Pyros light up the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, as we welcome you live on Pay Per View to HWL presents Heatwave from deep in the heart of the south.

We are kicking things off tonight with our first of four championship matches as Pete Dunne and Austin Aries, accompanied by TJ Perkins, make their entrance for the Cruiserweight Championship contest.

Match #1 – HWL Cruiserweight Championship – Austin Aries vs. Pete Dunne
Aries and Dunne square off as the match gets under way and Dunne is able to lunge out and get ahold of one of Aries’ wrists. Dunne then tries to manipulate his fingers, but Aries is able to fight out of it with an Enziguri to the side of the head.  Aries then whips Dunne off into the ropes and connects with a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker and goes for the Last Chancery, but Dunne fights out with a series of Elbow Strikes to the side of the head. Dunne then rolls through into a Crossface Submission, but Aries ties himself up in the ropes to force a break. Dunne then connects with a  Facebreaker and tries to set up for a Package Piledriver, but Perkins reaches in the ring and grabs Aries by the foot, preventing Dunne from lifting him. Aries manages to land a couple of punches to the kidney of Dunne and then Back Body Drops him out over the top rope where Dunne lands on the ring apron and punts Perkins in the side of the head. However, the distraction gives Aries the opening to land a Springboard Dropkick, knocking Dunne off his feet where he lands hard on the back of his head on the side of the ring. Aries then drags Dunne back into the ring and connects with a Brainbuster and makes the cover for the three count.

Aries picks up the victory and retains the Cruiserweight Championship to kick of Heatwave as he makes his way to the back along with Perkins. In the back, our broadcast college is standing by with the NEW World Heavyweight Champion, Samoa Joe. Joe asks if you were expecting somebody else? If so, he says you should have known better. Joe says the only reason that little pipsqueak Joey Ryan was running around here with the title was because he never had to go through a real man like Samoa Joe to get it. But that’s all over now. Joe says this is his show now, his title and his era and if Adam Cole thinks he can change that, he should ask his boy O’Reilly, because one thing has always been undisputed and that’s when you go out to that ring with him… Joe’s Gonna Kill You.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Back at ringside, the Undisptuted Era’s Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly and So Cal Uncensored’s Kazarian and Scorpio Sky make their entrances for this next contest.

Match #2 – Undisputed Era vs. So Cal Uncensored

Fish and Sky tie up to start off the match and Fish goes to a Hammerlock, but Sky quickly reverses it into a Hammerlock of his own. Fish reaches through his legs and trips up Sky, sending him crashing to the mat and Fish connects with an Elbow Drop. Fish then makes the tag to O’Reilly and pulls Sky up and holds his arms behind his back as O’Reilly comes in off the top ropes and connects with a Double Ax-handle to the skull. O’Reilly then locks in a Heel Hook Submission, but Kazarian quickly breaks it up. Fish then tries to Clothesline Kazarian out over the top rope, but Kazarian counters into a Back Body Drop, launching Fish out to the floor. O’Reilly then takes Kazarian down with a Spear and Kazarian rolls out to the ring apron. Sky nails O’Reilly with a Thrust Kick to the gut and follows up with a Standing Spanish Fly into the cover, but O’Reilly kicks out for a near fall. Sky then heads up to the top rope, but Fish climbs back up on the ring apron and crotches him on the top turnbuckle. Fish then hits Kazarian with a Tornado DDT off the ring apron and out to the floor. O’Reilly manages to battle back up to his feet and goes up to the middle turnbuckle while pummeling Sky with a series of European Upper Cuts. O’Reilly then goes for a Frankensteiner out of the corner, but Sky blocks it and shoves O’Reilly away and O’Reilly comes down back on his feet. Sky then goes for a Flying Hurricanranna, but O’Reilly counters into a Powerbomb Backbreaker.  Sky rolls over to his knees, but can’t get back to his feet and O’Reilly turns the lights out with a Buzzsaw Kick and makes the cover for the three count.

Fish & O’Reilly celebrate their victory as they make their way to the back. In the back, our broadcast colleague is standing by with Lacey Evans. Evans says it is very hot 95 degrees outside and all of these Atlanta nasties have been running around half-dressed all day, but if these people think she’s going to be removing even a single shred of her clothing tonight, they are very sadly mistaken. She says she will be leaving that ring tonight, fully clothed, but Nikki Cross will be missing one significant piece of her wardrobe, the Women’s World Championship.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Back at ringside, Dolph Ziggler and Dustin Rhodes make their entrances for this next contest.

Match #3 – Dolph Ziggler vs. Dustin Rhodes

The two men square off as the match gets under way and Ziggler lunges at Rhodes, but Rhodes sidesteps and connects with an Upper Cut. Rhodes then presses Ziggler back against the corner and delivers a series of Knife-edge Chops. Rhodes then Hip Tosses Ziggler across the ring, sending him crashing down onto his tailbone. Rhodes then follows up with a Running Snapmere and makes the cover, but Ziggler kicks out. Rhodes drags Ziggler over to the corner and goes for a Swagger Bomb, but Ziggler drives both boots up into his face. Ziggler then follows up with a Fameasser and then heads up to the top rope. Ziggler takes flight, going for a Froggy Crossbody as Rhodes staggers back up to his feet, but Rhodes catches him with a Gutbuster. Rhodes follows up with the Final Cut into the cover for the three count.

Rhodes picks up a win in his first HWL match and celebrates as he makes his way to the back. Backstage, our broadcast colleague is standing by with the Undisputed Era, who are busy congratulating themselves after Fish & O’Reilly defeated So Cal Uncensored earlier tonight. Cole is now focused in on the World Heavyweight Championship match and Samoa Joe, at least momentarily, but that focus shifts as the Era spots a red and blue figure off in the background. Cole, Fish and O’Reilly then sneak up on the figure and Fish and O’Reilly tackle him, but it turns out it’s only Harry the Hawk, the Atlanta Hawks mascot. Undisputed Era storm off in a huff, cursing Suicide, who is still very much on their minds. As they leave, the camera pans up, we see Suicide lurking up in the rafters. Suicide makes a hushing motion toward the camera and disappears from view.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Back at ringside, Shayna Baszler and Britt Baker make their entrances for this next contest.

Match #4 – Britt Baker vs. Shayna Baszler

The two women square off as the bell rings, but before either can make a move, Baker is suddenly tripped up as Jessica Havok arrives at ringside and pulls Baker out to the floor and drives her spine first into the ring post and the referee calls for the bell for a disqualification.

Havok then clinches Baker in a debilitating Bear Hug and then an Overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex into the barricade and Baker comes down hard on the back of her head. Baszler then goes out to the floor and is about to attack Havok from behind, but Havok suddenly turns and growls at her and Baszler backs off and exits up the rampway. Havok then turns her attention back to Baker and then Powerbombs her onto the ring steps before stalking away up the rampway, leaving Baker writhing in pain on the steps.
In the back, our broadcast colleague is standing by with Women’s World Champion Nikki Cross. Cross says this title is her toy, her plaything, hers and nobody else’s and she says she does not like to share. Cross says she will gladly play with Lacey again and again and again and again, but she will not share. However, Cross says that after it’s done, it will be time for Lacey to share. She says it will be time for Lacey to share with everybody. Cross then cackles as she wanders away from the interview area.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Back at ringside, it’s time for our next title contest as the Young Bucks and the Goodbrothers make their entrances for this tag team championship match.

Match #5 – HWL Tag Team Championship – The Goodbrothers vs. The Young Bucks

Karl Anderson and Nick Jackson start things off for their respective teams and Jackson connects with a Superkick right out the gate and dives into the cover, but Anderson kicks out for a near fall.  Nick then pummels Anderson with a flurry of Forearms and springboards off the ropes, but Anderson rolls out of the way as Nick goes for a Flying Leg Drop and Nick crashes to the mat. Anderson then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Knee Smash to the face and makes the cover, but Nick kicks out. Anderson puts the boots to Nick and then starts to drag him back up to his feet, but Nick fires back with a flurry of punches to the midsection and then connects with a Jawbreaker. Nick then follows up with a Spinning Heel Kick and makes the tag to Matt. The Bucks then go for a Double Superkick, but Anderson ducks out of the way and rolls Matt up in a Schoolboy for a near fall. Gallows then comes in and Clotheslines Nick out over the top rope and out to the floor. The referee forces Gallows back to his corner and Anderson pokes Matt in the eye and grabs him by the tights, flinging him through the ropes into the ring post. Anderson then makes the tag to Gallows, who first drops down to the floor and charges around the ring to take Nick out with a Big Boot. Gallows then rolls back into the ring and the Goodbrothers take Matt out with a High/Low Combination attack. Gallows makes the cover, but Matt kicks out for a near fall. Gallows then bounces off the ropes and goes for an Atomic Leg Drop, but Matt rolls out of the way and Gallows crashes to the mat. Matt then nails Gallows with a Superkick as Gallows stays in a seated position. Anderson charges in, but Nick rolls in just in time and the Bucks connect with a Double Superkick on Anderson. The Bucks then set up for the Meltzer Driver on Anderson, but Gallows shoves Nick off the top rope and sends him bouncing off the ring apron and out to the floor while Anderson counters on Matt into a Tombstone Piledriver. The Goodbrothers then finish Matt off with the Magic Killer for the three count.

The Goodbrothers successfully retain the tag team championships, but it looks like they are not done there as they go out to the floor and pull up a section of padding around the ring. They then set up for a second Magic Killer on Nick to the exposed concrete, but Suicide appears from under the ring and pulls Nick out of their grip and kicks Gallows in the nuts. Suicide then hits Anderson with an Impaler DDT on to the exposed concrete. Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly from the Undisputed Era and Dave and Jake Crist from OvE charge down to the ring and Suicide escapes through the crowd with all four of them in hot pursuit. In the back, our broadcast colleague is standing by with Jessica Havok to try to get word on why she attacked Britt Baker earlier tonight. Havok says she felt like it. She says she should have the Women’s World Championship right now, but Lacey Evans shoved her foot off the rope during her title match with Nikki Cross. So, Havok says that now the whole division is going to pay.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Back at ringside this epic dream match is finally happening as Sting and The Undertaker make their entrances.

Match #6 – The Undertaker vs. Sting

The two icons stare each other down from across the ring and slowly come toe-to-toe as the crowd goes nuts. The two then trade punches back and forth as the match gets under way with Undertaker getting the upper hand. Undertaker then hoists Sting up and drops him Snake Eyes across the top turnbuckle before bouncing off the ropes and connects with a Running Big Boot. Undertaker then follows up with an Atomic Leg Drop and goes for the cover, but Sting kicks out. Undertaker puts the boots to Sting and then drags him back up by the arm and heads up to the top turnbuckle. Undertaker then prepares to go Old School, but Sting pulls him off the top rope into a Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Undertaker stumbles back up to his feet and Sting boots him in the chest, sending him sprawling backward into the corner. Sting then gets a running start and connects with the Stinger Splash in the corner. Sting then tries for the Scorpion Death Drop, but Undertaker spins out of it and connects with a Short-arm Clothesline. Undertaker keeps ahold of Sting’s wrist and slowly drags him back up to his feet and goozles him. Undertaker lifts Sting up for a Chokeslam, but Sting fights free and lands back in his feet and kicks Undertaker in the gut and connects with a DDT. Sting then heads up to the top turnbuckle, but Undertaker sits up and pulls himself up to his feet using the ropes and punches Sting in the side of the head. Undertaker then Ric Flair’s Sting off the top rope and connects with another Atomic Leg Drop. Undertaker then drags his finger across his throat as he calls for the Tombstone Piledriver. Undertaker then slowly drags Sting back up by the hair and sets up for the Tombstone, but Sting slips free down his back, pulling his head back with him as he goes, setting up perfectly as he delivers the Scorpion Death Drop and makes the cover for the three count.

Sting celebrates his victory in this battle of Icons, but doesn’t have long to celebrate as “Cult of Personality” suddenly blasts through the arena and the crowd goes nuts as CM Punk makes his way down to the ring. Punk and Sting come face to face and Punk suddenly throws a Roundhouse Kick, catching Sting in the temple and knocking him down in the corner. Punk gives Sting an earful in the corner, unaware as Undertaker sits up behind him. Undertaker then gets back to his feet and when Punk turns around, Undertaker goozles him and goes for a Chokeslam, but Punk counters with a punt to the nuts and then hoists Undertaker up and connects with the GTS. Punk then follows up with a GTS for Sting as well and stands with his hands raised and a foot planted firmly on Sting’s chest. Undertaker then starts to sit up again and Punk bails out of the ring this time and takes a microphone as he backs away up the ramp. Punk says this catastrophe of a match was a joke and nobody wants to see this 50-plus year old gasbags come out here and risk busting a hip any more. Punk says now that he is back, after remaining the biggest thing in wrestling despite not stepping foot in a ring for more than five years, you’ll never have to go back to watching these old farts half-heartedly try to play their greatest hits. He says they can all be safely put out to pasture now because he’s got this. Punk then drops the mic and stalks off up the ramp, flying two middle fingers over his head as he leaves.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

A video package updates our viewers on how Adam Cole and Samoa Joe earned their spot in the World Heavyweight Championship match tonight. The challenger and champion then make their entrances for this title match.

Match #7 – HWL World Heavyweight Championship – Samoa Joe vs. Adam Cole

Joe and Cole square off as the match gets under way and Joe connects with a flurry of jabs. Joe then tries to whip Cole off into the ropes, but Cole counters into a Facebreaker. Cole then whips Joe into the corner and charges in after him, but Joe counter into a Yurinagi. Joe follows up with a Running Senton and makes the cover, but Cole kicks out. Joe puts the boots to Cole and then climbs up to the middle turnbuckle and goes for a Diving Senton, but Cole rolls out of the way and Joe crashes to the mat. Cole then bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Dropkick. Joe rolls over and slowly sits up as Cole bounces off the ropes and connects with a Running Knee Smash to the face. Cole springboards off the ropes into a Flying Guillotine Leg Drop and then makes the cover, but Joe kicks out.  Cole puts the boots to Joe and then climbs up to the middle turnbuckle as Joe staggers back up to his feet and Cole connects with a Flying Leg Lariat. Cole drags Joe back up and sets up for a  Cradle Piledriver, but can’t get Joe hoisted up and Joe instead Back Body Drops him out over the top rope and out onto the ring apron. Cole gets back to his feet and Joe drops him with a big right hand. Joe then steps out through the ropes and connects with a Running Senton onto the ring apron. Joe then drags Cole back into the ring and tries for the Conquina Clutch, but Cole pushes off the ropes and counters into a pinning predicament, but Joe kicks out. Cole connects with a Superkick and then heads up to the middle turnbuckle and jumps onto Joe, connecting with the Panama Sunrise. Cole dives into the cover, but Joe kicks out at the last possible second, saving the championship for the time being. Cole pummels Joe with some Forearm Shivers and then heads up to the top turnbuckle. Joe stumbles back up and Cole goes for a Blockbuster Neckbreaker, but Joe slips free and Cole lands on his feet behind Joe, but Joe pivots and cracks Cole in the back of the head with a Discus Elbow Strike. Joe then follows up with a Package Piledriver and then a Running Senton Splash. Joe then drags Cole over to the corner and sets him up on the top turnbuckle. Cole fires back with Elbow Strikes to the head and goes for a Tornado DDT, but Joe counters into an Inverted Atomic Drop. Joe then sets Cole back up on the top turnbuckle and delivers the Muscle Buster and makes the cover, but Cole gets his foot up on the bottom rope. Joe wastes no time and transitions into the Conquina Clutch, but Cole ties himself up in the ropes again. Joe pounds Cole over the back of the head and neck and drags him back up to his feet, but Cole Headbutts him in desperation and Joe is unfazed as Cole drops down to one knee. Joe grabs Cole by the head and drives him face first into a big Knee Strike. Joe then drags Cole back up and puts him up on the top turnbuckle into position for another Muscle Buster. Cole limply tries to ward him off, but has nothing left and Joe sets up for the Muscle Buster, but instead of dropping Cole straight down, he climbs up to the bottom turnbuckle and then to the middle turnbuckle before taking the backward tumble, driving Cole into the mat with a second Muscle Buster, this time from the second rope and Joe covers him for the three count.

Samoa Joe retains the World Heavyweight Championship in his first title defense and holds the ring as he celebrates his victory and Cole is slowly helped to the back. A video package then replays the history between Lacey Evans and Nikki Cross and reminds the viewers of everything that is on the line for Evans if she does not win the championship tonight.

Re: HWL presents Heatwave (08/17/19)

Back at ringside, Lacey Evans and Nikki Cross make their entrances for our Main Event of the night.

Match #8 – HWL Women’s World Championship – Nikki Cross vs. Lacey Evans

The two women tear into each other from the opening bell with Evans getting the upper hand. Evans then rolls Cross up in a small package, but Cross kicks out for a near fall. Evans hits Cross with a Knee Strikes and then rolls her up again with a handful of tights, but Cross still kicks out for a near fall. Evans then rakes Cross across the eyes and sets up for a Fameasser, but Cross fights out and shoves Evans across the ring mid-jump, dropping her unceremoniously on her ass in the middle of the ring. Cross then hits a Running Snapmere and then asks everybody if they want a little peek. Cross then starts pulling at Lacey’s top, but can’t get it to budge much and Lacey regroups and kicks her away. Lacey then knocks Cross flat with a Discus Clothesline and follows up with a Standing Moonsault into the cover, but Cross kicks out. Cross staggers back up and Lacey grabs her around the middle and runs her off into the ropes, looking for a rollup on the move, but Cross hangs onto the ropes and sends Lacey rolling backward and back up to her feet. Cross then turns around and walks right into the Woman’s Right, but falls backward through the ropes and off the ring apron and to the floor. Lacey falls against the ropes in frustration as she could have won the title right here and now if she had been able to keep Cross in the ring. Lacey goes out to the floor and pulls Nikki back up and rolls her back into the ring, leaving her head hanging out over the side of the ring. Lacey then climbs up to the ring apron and goes for a big Leg Drop, but Nikki moves out of the way and Lacey crashes down onto the ring apron. Nikki slowly pulls herself back up against the corner as Lacey slowly gets back to her feet on the ring apron and Nikki Headbutts Lacey. Nikki then grabs Lacey by a leg and pulls it back into the ring and then does the same with the other leg, laying Lacey’s waist across the middle rope while leaving her top half dangling out over the side of the ring and Lacey uses one hand to try to keep her balance and prevent herself from crashing to the floor as she teeters on the middle rope. Nikki then ducks down and grabs Lacey by the hands, pulling her upper body through between the second and bottom ropes, essentially kind of tying her up as gravity forces Lacey’s upper body back against the bottom rope while she hangs there from the middle rope and Nikki keeps ahold of Lacey’s legs to prevent her from pulling them to the outside to free herself. Nikki then reiterates that she wants everybody to have a peek and Lacey emphatically shakes her head no. Nikki gets a good grip on Lacey’s tights and starts to pull them down from her hips and suddenly we have full gluteal exposure as Lacey’s bare rump points straight up at the lights. Nikki gives a smack to each fully exposed cheek for good measure, leaving red hand prints, before releasing Lacey, who quickly pulls her legs through the outside and drops down to the floor where she hastily readjusts her pants. Lacey has completely lost her cool now as she grabs a steel chair and slides back into the ring with it and Nikki stands there and urges her to use it and get herself disqualified. If Lacey does that, everybody will get more than just a peek because Lacey will lose the match and have to disrobe. Lacey weighs her options before slowly settling down and allowing the referee to take the chair. As soon as the referee has the chair, Cross charges across the ring and connects with a Spear. She then makes the cover and hooks the leg, but Lacey kicks out for a near fall. Nikki then mounts Lacey and grabs her by the hair and ragdolls her head up and down, banging the back of her head off the mat. Nikki then calls for the end and pulls Lacey up into position for a Fisherman’s Neckbreaker, but Lacey fights out of it. Lacey then goes for the Woman’s Right, but Nikki ducks out of the way. Both women then go for a Headbutt at the same time and both women drop side by side in the middle of the ring. A murmur then goes up from the crowd as Jessica Havok stalks down to the ring. Havok climbs up to the ring apron and the referee tries to block her entry, but is no match for her as she pushes her way in. Havok surveys and the scene and promptly drops a Big Senton Splash on both women at the same time and the referee calls for the bell, ending this match.

Havok drags both women over to the side of the ring and rolls out to the floor. Havok then pulls Cross out and hurls her headlong into the ring steps. Havok then pulls Lacey out and puts her in a Bear Hug before ramming her spine first into the ring post. Havok then begins tearing the monitors out of the announce table as Cross struggles to get back to her feet and Havok smashes one of the monitors across Cross’s face, busing the Women’s World Champion open. Havok stands over Cross as she lay there bleeding and Havok slowly reaches down and coats the side of her hand in Cross’s blood and then slowly licks it off. Lacey is trying to crawl away, but Havok easily catches her and drags her back up and Power Bombs her into the barricade. Havok then drags Lacey by the hair over to the announce table and gets a double Underhook before hoisting her up and driving her down Implant Buster style onto the announce table, which doesn’t break. Havok then drags Cross over and puts her on the table next to Evans. Havok then pulls out a ladder and sets It up next to the announce table. Havok then slowly climbs three quarters of the way up the ladder as Cross and Evans lay motionless on the table and Havok drops forward, falling from the ladder to deliver a titanic Leg Drop onto both Cross and Evans as the three women crash through the table. Havok gradually pulls herself up out of the wrecked table and takes the Women’s World Championship and holds it up before dropping it back down beside Cross and stalking off toward the back.
With the match over, Dario Cueto now makes his way out to the. He says that a deal is a deal and Lacey Evans did NOT win the match tonight. He says in the contract she signed for this match, a draw is the same as a loss. However, Cueto says Lacey is in no state to live up to her side of the bargain right now after what Havok just put her through. So, Cueto says he can be patient. Cueto says this coming Wednesday night on Overdrive, Lacey will have to pay the piper. Cueto then exits as our medial team continues to tend to Nikki and Lacey and the broadcast team runs down just how terrible a human being Dario Cueto is, but thanks for joining us tonight on Pay Per View. Join us again next month for Fall Brawl.
